Costco selling Garmin Nuvi 680 for only $480!!

My best friend just called me because he was at a Costco store today and found that they are selling the Garmin Nuvi 680 for $480! Costco sells the 680 on their web site, but they are out of stock right now. The store had several in stock, so check your local store. He just saw the 680 in Best Buy yesterday for $799. My friend and I personally purchased ours from BuyDig.com for $617 a little while ago. The 2'nd reason we bought our units from BuyDig.com besides the price was because of the 3 year extended warranty (beyond the 1 year Garmin warranty) from MACK for an extra $50. The price from Costco puts everyone to shame.

I personally love the 680 and I give it two thumbs up due to MSN's live traffic information. For those who are wondering about traffic information services, MSN is the only traffic service, at least when I purchased my 680, to allow the user to look at a single live view of all of traffic conditions on all major freeways in the entire area in a single glance. I can zoom in and drag the map around with my finger. I can leave the traffic map up and it stills displays my vehicle location on the freeway. The picture you see is just like the one you would see at sigalert.com. This is absolutely the biggest time saving benefit of the 680. I had a 660 with the "other" traffic provider and they only showed the traffic jam after you were almost there, which was not acceptable. There was no way to get a look at the "big" picture of all the freeways in a single glance! The cost of the traffic service is also a better deal from MSN. MSN was the only one to offer a "lifetime" service for only $129.95 instead of paying year after year after year. Just my 2 cents.

Happy Holidays!

Costco warranty

Hey, I saw it too but I think prices will drop even more on the internet because this is the year of the gps. I believe Costco adds another year on top of the original warranty which is the same as most credit cards. Plus, Costco has the "lifetime satisfaction guarantee" with most items except TVs, computers, and cameras.

I think extra warranties are usually never a good value. Think of everything you had bought plus paying an extra 10-20% on the add'l warranty? How much would you have lost? Do things break? Yes, but how often? Enough justify the add'l warranty cost?

I saw a display this weekend

I saw a display this weekend too. What's funny is Costco told me they were not going to carry Garmin in the stores, so I'd have to order online instead. GPS seem to be the in thing this year-everyone has one. This has to kill the auto companies that up till now have been charging thousands of dollars for GPS options.

MSN for Life ?

mooracer,

Is the lifetime offer for the MSN service offered on the website ?

That's a pretty good deal.

Is it hooked to a certain GPS serial number or just you name ?

I don't have a GPS unit capable of receiving the MSn service... just the XM or FM Traffic. But If I can use it in the future and on my home computer, I would consider getting it.

Thanks, Tim

msn direct

I have a C580 and find msn direct works well for me plus you get 1 year free and you can extend it for 6 months for $9.95. This was a major reason I went with the C580 and the FM reciever is included too..

Garmin Streetpilot i3, Streetpilot C580 and Nuvi 265WT

Last night I saw the Nuvi 680 for sale in my local Costco…

I bought one online from Costco two weeks ago and thought that this model would only be available online. Shortly after I made my purchase I saw that they had been sold out.

Now they have them in the stores for the same price: $479.99. It would have been nice to have saved the shipping. sad

Anyway, it seems like a good deal, since I paid $699 for a 660 in mid October.

But, as I always say, "that's just my opinion, I could be wrong." smile
