POI icons on map

Hi!

I'm just learning here, so please be patient with me. smile

I have some custom POI's loaded into my Garmin C-340. To access them I go into 'My Locations' > 'Custom POI's. How do I get them to show up as icons on my maps? Do I have to select each POI individually and travel there via my destination? Or can I somehow load all of the custom POI's onto the map and have them show up during my random travels? Sorry, I'm lost here!

There is tons on this site

There is tons on this site about that, but in short

put the icon in the same folder as the csv file and make sure that they are both named exactly the same and upload it with POILoader

No worries...

Check out this link ( http://www.poi-factory.com/node/4359 ) for POI icon association.

Kudos to MM ( http://www.poi-factory.com/user/4850 ) for her assist on this subject.

Now after I download the

Now after I download the icon and marry it up with the POI, do I get it into the map by selecting an individual POI (say for example, 'Rest Area's Oregon' > 'I-84 MM 112')...after selecting the I-84 rest area do I go to 'Show Map' and 'Set Loc"? Will it set the icon on the map then? I have a Garmin C-340. I'm sorry, but you have to get sort of detailed with me. I do appreciate everyone's tutoring me on this matter. Thank you all.

I may be wrong, cause I

I may be wrong, cause I never had a C340, but I don't believe that it has a 'set loc' button.

I didn't really understand your post, but if you have already loaded the POIs into the GPS, then yes, just select the individual POI and 'Show Map' and you will be able to see the location.

Yes, it has a 'Set Loc'

Yes, it has a 'Set Loc' button, (I'm assuming that stands for "Set Location". I do see an arrow and a dot on my map when I press the 'Show Map' button, but (since I don't have the icons in there right now) AM I setting the location I've chosen by doing these steps? I guess I'll know for sure when I jump in my car and drive! smile

The "Set Loc." button is only active when you are not currently receiving a GPS signal. (Its function is to set the current location of the map as your location.)

If you set the icons up with the Custom POIs and properly load them, then they will automatically show up on the map. You may need to zoom in to see them. If you are currently getting the gray dot, you will get the icon in that location.

I think that's all I needed

I think that's all I needed to know! Thanks everyone! It's a shame the manual doesn't have more detailed info on the topic. That's why it's so fantastic you all are here to help!

you can check your bmps

As far as checking your custom bmp's for your custom poi;

You can check the custom bmp's by selecting the specific poi, don't press "go" but press "show map". This is the screen you described here.

When you get them loaded, and you get to the screen you describe here, press "show map", then, you may have to zoom to at least 300ft or closer.
If you are set other than 3D mode you will probably have a zoom scale on the lower left side of the map. Or, you can zoom all the way in (80ft) bump out once (120ft) twice (200ft) three times (300ft) the fourth time (500ft) will be too great and the bmp will disappear.

You can also select a poi and "GO", then when you get near the specific poi your "icon" will appear (still must be zoomed to 300ft or closer).

You will see custom bmp's when in navigation mode and no specific poi is selected, (still must be zoomed to 300ft or closer).

With no bmp's loaded with the poi you will most likely see a gray dot.
