Removing SD Card

Once you have poi on a SD card. Can you remove the card if you don't want to see the icons and then reinstall it SD card later and have them back on?

Thanks!!!
Steve

SD CARD

I belive the answer to your question is yes but I’m not the authority on this. I believe that when you put the SD card in you may get the option to install or not to install the POI’s on your GPS. If they are installed then you no longer need to use the SD card. If the POI's are only on the SD card then it would need to be in the unit in order to view the content. Also if you put the SD card in while the unit is on you may need to restart it in order to read the files’

I hope this helps,
Monte

I'm using a Garmin c340 and

I'm using a Garmin c340 and I don't think it has any memory built into it. What I was tring to ask is what happens to the Custom POI tab (section) on the GPS sceen when the SD card is pulled out? Does the GPS work and look as if you never had a SD card installed?

Thanks In Advance!!!

Try at your own risk:)

Hi Steve,

I’m not sure but I would remove the SD card and see what happens and then put it back and check again. I'm sure that if you wait until later today someone will post that is familiar with the c340.

Try at your own risk:)

You aren't able to store

You aren't able to store POIs on the SD card of the C3xx.

First, the c3xx doesn't allow storage of the POIs on the SD card. You need to load them directly into your GPSr from POI Loader.
Second, on other units, you can store some POIs on the SD card and others on the GPSr. When you start up with the SD card, it asks if you want to transfer them to the GPSr. When you turn on your GPS, it will provide all of the POIs in internal memory and on the SD card. If you remove the card and then turn the unit on, it will only show those on the SD card. You can have two SD cards with different POIs, for example and depending upon which SD card is in the unit when you start, those are the custom POIs you will see.

SD Card

I'm so glad I joined this site. I was told the Garmin c340 didn't have any internal memory and I would have to store any POI on a SD card. Does anyone know how much internal memory is in the c340? Same question as before. When you delete all POI file saved will your GPS go back to the orginal state (factory)? I also seen in the getting started file that you can upload 1 that is at the North Pole. So once you upload POI to your GPS you can't go back?

Thanks!!!

If it was like the C530, not

If it was like the C530, not a lot. I can't remember exactly, but it was like 20 or 40 MBs. But enough to store a few thousand POIs

On my c530, I have over 40,000 stored with room to go. I believe your unit has the same amount of available space.
Also, when you delete your custom POIs, you are still left with the factory installed POIs. See FAQs. Every time you load POIs, you replace the existing ones. Most of us have a folder on our PC that includes all of the POIs we want to have on our GPSr. Therefore, when you load from that file, you replace the existing ones with the ones you want to maintain.

SD Card on C330

Since all I have on the SD card is the 2008NT Canada & Alaska maps and a "copy" of all my Custom POIs (which it won't read) I don't fully insert card for 2 reasons:
1. I'm not going going to Canada or Alaska soon ! (I don't think)

2. Having the card inserted with the Canada & Alaska maps on it "seems" to slow down my C330 during normal operation. May be my imagination but maybe the GPSr reads all maps in planning routing !
Just my observation !
