Red light Camera alert

I have a Garmin 2720 that I have loaded Red light cameras into the Custom POI's only, will I get an audio/visual alert or do I need to make them a Waypoint to get the alert?

Red light Camera alert

As long as you have your alerts turned on and your poi file has an alert for it yes it will give both audio and visual alert poi file is to be like this
EXAMPLE long lat street name or intersection and at the end of the poi file you need this _35 or this @35 or what ever number you want to use the 35 means speed or when you load the file with garmin poi loader you can set it manually for the feet you want like 400 feet or what ever hope this helps

Also, if you leave the word "redlight" in the file name, you will automatically get an alert at 1/4 mile if the alerts are turned on in your unit.

redlight vs camera

My redlight file has the name "Red Light Camera".

I'm guessing that since "redlight" isn't in the name, the word "camera" is causing the alert. Are all zero speed alerts set at 1/4 mile?

Here's the info from the help file. Yes, "camera" is a valid alert word but it works differently (apparently) from the word "redlight".

If a file name contains a valid speed number or if all records in a file have speed encoded in the name, then all records in the file will include speed and proximity alerts. For example, a data file with the file name "Speed_30" generates speed alerts of 30 mph (or kph, depending on the type of units selected in POI Loader) for each POI in the file.

If the file name contains "redlight", POI Loader assumes all records in the file have proximity alerts with a distance of 400m/0.25 miles.

If a file contains "GATSO," "mobile," "SPECS," "safety," "speed," or "camera," but does not have a speed, POI Loader uses a default alert speed of 0, which means you will always be alerted. You can override this default value by entering the speed in Manual mode.

You can also enter speeds for each POI individually by adding the @ symbol and a number after the name of the POI. For example, a Custom POI named "Ridgeview@25" would create a POI named "Ridgeview" with a 25 mph speed alert.

POI Loader calculates proximity alert distance based on speed. You can enter proximity alert distance for individual Custom POIs in a .gpx file. You can also enter proximity alert distance for all Custom POIs in a data file using Manual mode.

Alert distance

My filename was "Traffic light camera," which alerted me at 1969ft/600m. When I renamed it to "Redlight camera," the alert distance dropped to 1320ft/400m. A lot more manageable, since we seem to have a camera at almost every traffic light where I live.

Thanks for the input. It

Thanks for the input. It really helped with my similar problem.

Alert Distance

So, "camera" gives a longer alert distance than "redlight". That's interesting. I wonder why, since both use an alert speed of zero.

thank you all for the

thank you all for the advice, Auggie, it has been driving me nuts how to change the defalut 01 in the speed alert to 25 ect.

Different Speeds - one file

Intersting

As I understand to make the speed file work properly:
- It has to have the word speed in the name
- It has to have the speed limit, e.g 25, in the file name

Which means that we have to split the speed file in many files each groups the same speed cameras!

How do we do that? when we download the safety cameras files from the internet they are gouped in one file and the speed limit for each line is not shown!

A second question : will the alerts vary if I'm travelling over the speed limit? how can I set a different mp3 file in this case?
