Map updates?

I purchased a refurbished RE50. I can't get any map updates, the "register for lifetime updates" button is greyed out, and the gps tells me the maps are over 1 year old. I registered and updated the unit when I got it a week ago, I thought it updated my maps, but NO.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?

My thought is lifetime maps is for original owner. When you registered, you would be second owner. If this is the case, can you ask original owner to update for you?
I gave my old garmin to my brother in law. I changed my password and gave him access to that account so he has lifetime maps. I created a new account for myself for my new garmin.

Does dbusguy's Rand McNally map updates work the same as the Garmin lifetime map policy?

I Get Map Updates on a 2nd Hand Garmin Unit
I bought a used Garmin 3790 on e-bay a couple of years ago where the seller had a lifetime map subscription. He transferred the ownership to me on the Garmin website and I've been getting Garmin map updates ever since.

I bought it REFURBISHED.
I bought it REFURBISHED, not used. As such it should have lifetime maps - it was advertised that way. It appears the maps are from 2014 (dates on the files)
Customer support told me to delete a config file. I did. Now it doesn't tell me maps are out of date, but they still are the old maps. I replied to their email support, 5 days now and no reply.

Have you tried to update the maps since? Maybe removing that config file will let you update now?
