2019.10 Is Available

The latest map update is now available to download.

Is there any option for not

Is there any option for not having to click okay on the startup disclaimer screen and have it default to the map with this update?

Thanks

Thanks for letting us know it is available.

2495 (50 min)
260 (1 hr 40 min)

Downloading for the 2495 and 260 took less than 5 min each. The majority of the time is for copying the map to the Nuvis.

The majority of the time is downloading map files to your PC. Those same files are used for subsequent downloads to your other devices which is why they were so quick.

Thanks

Thanks, I was just about to apply a software update, so before I go out to the car, I'll download the new map! Just in time for a weekend road trip.

New but no fixes

My first observations are that there are no new school zones with my limited driving. Edmonton got a few with the previous release. And.. my biggest pet peeve.. they still have not fixed the road ahead algorithm and this version still skips many streets ahead (that notice at the top that show the next road)

1390T

Been a while since I updated maps on my 1390T. I remember having the ability to download the map and install it on the local computer to be used with MapSource/Basecamp as well as having it install on the GPS itself. Can I still do that so I have the latest for Mapsource/Basecamp?

Also, I do have my current map on an SD card. Don't remember how I got it to the SD card instead of the units internal memory. Is the option to install on a SDcard there through GE?

Mine is a 1390T and I just updated the map last night. Just insert a microSD card and update using Garmin Express. It automatically puts the map on the microSD because there is not enough internal memory. Download this the large JCV file from the link on the other thread and replace the small one while your at it.

Thanks for the head up

Downloading now.

Happy New Year 2019!

Surprisingly, it's available now!

2019.10. Wow amazing! In recent years it's been a hassle waiting for the MU and listening to the Garmin tech support clowns insisting that MU is obsolete and will no longer be provided because it's not compatible and won't work with the new maps. And nice and early for - uh - 2019 too!

Time for a trip to the library

For annual update

The disclaimer screen is always present (hidden in memory) and no way to get rid of it since it's Garmin's policy to protect themselves from lawsuits.

Do I need to erase the existing map on the SDCard, or will it overwrite? And do you have a link to the large JCV file?
Thanks!

Garmin Nuvi 2699 with 2017.30 Maps

2019.1

Uploading it to my antique Garmin 276C right now - and so far this is the smoothest most hassle free map upload ever!

(Uh oh - that was stupid. I should have waited until it was all safely uploaded before I said anything lest I spook it!)

Thanks

Thanks for the heads up.

Using GE, I updated the DriveSmart 50LMTHD took 25 mins. to download and update (original GE estimate was 44 mins). The 2597LMT then only took 7 mins. to update (which I assume was due to the majority of the files were already downloaded previously). For me, it was the fastest map update ever.

Update went very well.No

Successful x 3

I used once again the Alandb cloning method on my three units & all went well smile

I have a 30Mbps download speed from my ISP & Garmin Express was showing a download speed that varied between 3.7 & 3.9 MB/s.

On my older 2x5 units, I once a few years ago updated just a region on one occasion instead of the entire map & now when I use Garmin Express the following happens.

It automatically installs that one region I had installed a few years ago and once completed I must click "change map" coverage for a new download in order to get all of North America.

Note to Alandb concerning step # 2:

I always read your cloning FAQ before doing a new update to refresh my memory.

On both of my older 2x5 units, I do not have the latest firmware installed. When I use Garmin Express it tells me I have two updates, a new map along with a new firmware.

I click install both & the new maps along with the firmware are written onto the SD card as expected. Once I rename the map files I then delete the the GarminDevice.xml + GUPDATE.GCD file & I'm ready to go smile

Thanks for pointing this out. I didn't realize that Garmin Express would download both firmware and a map update in one pass. I guess I have never had that situation with Express, as I keep my firmware current on my nuvi's. When the FAQ was originally written, most of us were using MapUpdater, and as I recall, MapUpdater would force you into WebUpdater when a firmware update was available and would not download the map update until the firmware was current.

For now, I think I will keep the existing wording in the FAQ since most users do not run outdated firmware, and there are still a few folks that use cloning with MapUpdater.

I think it is unfortunate that Express works this way as it seems to me there is a risk (although small) that the stage 2 part of firmware update (after reboot) could occur with corrupt map files if the map update step didn't complete properly. I don't know what problems this could potentially cause, but it doesn't seem like a good idea to me. I would rather keep the firmware update and map update as separate processes. Of course the cloning technique you are using protects you from this possibility.

You have to click on Map Options to get the check box for downloading to the unit and computer.

Agreed, that's why I never click on Install all but select the Install option for software first and once that's up and running I install the maps.

No, you don’t have one remove the old map that to update to the new one. The link to the large JCV file is in this thread.

With my old nuvi 750, the only device I have that uses a SD card to install all of North America for the past few updates, I do have to manually delete the files on the SD card before starting a map update. The update using GE fails if I leave the previous map file on the SD card.

Thanks

Thanks for the heads up.

Fails to install on computer (for BaseCamp)

It took a few attempts but the map installed to my (BMW Motorrad) Navigator V. It will not install to my computer though. Tried at the same time. Tried separately. Fails every time with "There was an error installing the update." Is anyone else having this issue?

I'd the same error message appear after an install attempt to the computer. However, ignoring the message, I opened up BaseCamp and/or Map Install, the map was present and working as it should. Thus, that error might be a bogus error message. Might check BaseCamp and see if the map is there...

overall ok

It balked on the first attempt. After that all was well for 4 units.

Never have to delete

Never had to delete anything on any update yet. Always use GE and updates with no problems. I'm using a 16GB microSD card in mine not sure if that makes any difference.

Garmin - maybe they all have the flu

Now I'm worried about Garmin. Are they OK? Are they sick or something? This is the first time ever that a map update on my good old 276C went totally smoothly with absolutely no problems, and me not having to listen to Garmin tech support, including the supervisors, telling me that Map Updater is no longer supported so I can forget about that, and anyway the new maps are not compatible with my 276C, trying to hustle me into buying a new GPS, which has always happened before. Always. Something must be wrong there.

LOL @werewolf

Someone at Garmin forgot that they are supposed to wait for your repeated phone calls and provide a little torture before they enable WebUpdater. I am sure they have put in a reminder alert for next time. laugh out loud

Look on the map at here.com and see if it's been updated there. That's the map Garmin uses. How quickly the update to Here maps get into the Garmin Software is a crap shoot. Sometimes a road update makes it in 3 months, sometimes it take a couple years.

Thanks for your help!

New File?

Update gave a new file name under myMaps.
2019.10 Basic 3D
I don't remember it being called that before. The word "Basic"
is new. I'm guessing that there's a more advanced version of this file for a newer Garmin that came out since the last update?

3D

I doubt there is a more advanced version as I think Garmin has removed both the 3D map and the DEM map from most (if not all) of the Drive series.

The gmap3d.img file is identical on both my old 755T and my 3597LMTHD. They both show "Basic 3D" on the Map Info screen. Maybe they did that to further distinguish it from the DEM (digital elevation) map.

What is the 755t doing with a 3d file? You didn't say which 755t, but no matter. Even the rino wouldn't have a 3d map on it. I just checked my wifes 2598lmt and it also never came with a 3d map.
