nuvi 2689 Lane Assist not working

Did I somehow turn off the Lane Assist or did the latest maps upgrade remove it?

Upper left hand arrows?

Are you referring to the arrows in the UL corner? They should be built into the map and not 'turn-off-able' as far as I know. Are you missing just one or can you confirm multuple missing LAs? If just one, it could be a map creator's error...maybe.

I suggest three things to try and test for recurrence of LA, one at a time until fixed:

-do a full power down, reboot

-do a hard reset

-reinstall the map update

Good luck.

Upper Left Hand Arrows

I traveled from Canada to Florida via the following routes:
I-95 ME,NH,MA;I-495 MA;I-290 MA;I-90 MA,CT;I-77 CT;I-671 CT;I-84 CT,NY;I-87 NY, and so forth.
The lane assist did not show up anytime I exited from these roads nor all the other interstate highways that I encountered .

However, in Cape Canaveral, lane assist showed the turning lane along with the other lanes on a three lanes section of A1A highway.

I am still confused on why my Nuvi 2689 screws with my mind.

map update

when you update your map did it also install the new JCV, the junction view must match the map installation version.Or it will not work.

Lane Guidance on 2689.

You didn't really answer CraigW's question about whether you are referring to Lane Assist (small arrows upper left corner of screen) or Junction view (image of intersection on right 1/3 of screen).

I will guess you are referring to junction view, and if you are seeing only a few of these, there was apparently some failure on your last map update and you didn't get a usable .JCV junction view file. Reinstalling the map update may help.

The fact you saw one (or a few) lane guidance screens is probably because the 2689 also has the "active lane guidance" feature. This feature shows an animated lane guidance on the right 1/3 of the screen and is very similar to the conventional junction view. This feature is delivered through the map file and not through the Junction View .JCV file. There are far less active lane guidance locations than there are junction view locations, so that could explain why you are seeing an occasional lane guidance but not as many as you would expect.

I hope this makes sense. Again, if this explains what you have observed, your best option is to reinstall the last map update.

At about 19 seconds into the above linked video you see 'Active Lane Guidance'. I have a 2689 too and have noticed there are not many places I see this, but it's always been this way.

Your reply leads me to believe you really are referring to Lane Assist (the tiny arrows in the upper left corner rather than Junction View which appears on the right-hand half of the display) and loss of LA is a much tougher issue to figure out than the loss of JVs. If truly Lane Assist, my thought of soft-reset/hard-reset/map-reinstall continues to be my suggestion.

For what it's worth, I don't think anyone has ever had this happen, at least in terms of them posting about the issue. If it is a Junction View issue instead, let us know.

[Later] Although this shouldn't be the issue with a nuvi 2689, apparently Lane Assist was selectable on older models and that's news to me:

Note: the comments of the above YouTube from 2012 suggest the author was not referring to Lane Assist so it may not apply. Even if true, a 2012 post referring to older models would not apply to the current situation or any of the recent Garmin devices.

Lane assist.

If you truly are talking about the lane assist arrows and not junction view / active lane guidance then I will agree that there are fewer of these than there used to be. I have noticed that as Garmin adds more junction view and active lane guidance intersections they sometimes remove the lane assist arrows. I suppose Garmin thinks it is redundant information to have lane assist and JV/ALG show on the same screen. If you have a backup of a really old map (say from 4 or 5 years ago) and restore it to your device, then compare the lane assist / junction views on a given route with the same route on the current map, I think you will see the difference.

Active Lane Guidance

Watching the youtube video I remember seeing this happening in Las Vegas. At the time I didn't even really think anything of it. Too busy driving in unknown territory.

I'm not sure if I prefer one over the other. Maybe depending on the location with signage and number of lanes, one would be better than the other.

I don't think I have seen any Active Lane Guidance here in Texas.

Driving from one city to the next, locally, with my 3597 you either get lane assist, some, but never with Junction view.

Lane Assist (White Arrows in Top Left Hand Corner)

It seems Garmin will giveth and then take it away.

Eventhough the Junction View may show relatively the same information as Lane Assist, Lane Assist gives you far more warning for the proper lane to be in before the Junction View appears on the screen.

Lane Assist is helpful especially on multi-lane congested interstates, where changing of lanes could be a hazard to your health, and in conjunction with the pressure that builds as you try to achieve the lane change in a timely matter, before it may become apparent that you may not be in the proper position, to achieve your intended turning manoeuvre .

Agreed

I agree. Lane Assist is very important. I haven't seen a decrease in my neck of the woods though and was surprised to hear they're being reduced in newer map updates.

OK!!! Now I know what that

OK!!! Now I know what that is called! I've seen it, but never knew what it was! Thanks for that info!
