If I understand your query correctly then it sounds as if you have TWO wav files with the identical name installed.

wav

that is what I thought but have removed wav 2 or 3 times along with POIs then downloaded POIs from factory again to be sure only one wav. I had used a wav then removed all POIs and wav with loader. redone wav. keep thinking that the old wav just remained in the GPS thank you for help can I go into the gps and remove all the gpx files without messing things up or go in and remove the WAVs somehow again thank you for the help

1. Make sure gps in Mass storage mode http://www.poi-factory.com/node/41416

2.Connect GPS to computer and run PoiLoader to remove all pois.

3.With unit still connected to computer go to your Poi folder on the device(gps) and click on it. Look for any other files that have the gpi extension. Make a copy for backup on the computer somewhere. Now delete the gpi extensions you found in the device located in the POI folder.

4. Reboot and re install your custom pois and wav files.

Have you tried?

Go to your POI folder on your "C" drive or wherever you have it. Go into the file and check to see if there are two wav files in the file. If there are, delete the file you don't want. That should take care of your problem if I understand you correctly. It is possible that you have two wav files installed in your POI folder.

Using a Mac?

If you are using a Mac, empty your trash. Apple, for some reason doesn't believe files put in the trash are really supposed to not be used in all instances.

I wouldn't give up yet. Click on each of your wav files and check to make sure it plays the sound that matches the file.

Some time back someone introduce a different sox.exe then the one here on the site. All kind of bad things happen as a result. Make sure you use the correct sox.exe. You can find it here http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730

What version of SOX?

Yes, I agree with charlesd45. When I was reading these, must first question popping in my head was what version of Sox was he using. A while ago (a couple of years ago) I tried using a more current current version based on some other's recommendations. I got some very strange results that did not make any sense at all. sounds I attached to one would play elsewhere. Even if I only loaded that one, a different sound would play. Weird.

I went back to the 14.0.1 and all the weirdness went away. It's not like the new version gave me any new capabilities anyway.

Perhaps it's something else

Maybe there is a second occurrence of the POI on the device with the original .wav file in a totally different location. There is no way there could be two .wav files with the exact same name in the same folder... Take a look at your source files and determine if maybe there is another instance of that same POI being installed into the gpi file with POI loader.

Let me agree with these two folks.

Oldshortround, what sox version are you using? This assumes you use a PC and not a Mac to load POIs since Macs don't need sox. The only version that works is 14.0.1 which is very different from 14.1.0 and others. The correct 14.0.1 can be found and downloaded here at the POI Factory. Our member Evert, after a lot of effort, was able to explain why newer sox versions don't work as expected. Since Garmin does not support custom wav audio alerts, there is little chance that the programmers that create and update the two programs, POILoader.exe and sox.exe, will revise these programs to work together.

I also agree that if this sox issue is not the problem, then the most common cause of your issue is that the computer has multiple csv/wav combos causing the duplication or the computer has multiple gpi files with different file names. Box Car's suggestion on Mac and Trash is important if a Mac is being used and camerabob's observation is correct that a csv/wav combo can not have a second incidence of a duplicate in the same folder with the same filename so learning if you use multiple folders on your computer for POI files and wav files is worth looking into as is learning if your loaded gpi files on the nuvi have ever been loaded with different filenames. If your nuvi has a SD card, are you looking for "ghost" gpi files both in the nuvi and the SD card?

Just to be clear, are we correct in reading that for this POI file, you get a double alert each and every time you should get an alert? Are they sequential? I'm not sure what a double alert would sound like. What POI file is giving you double alerts? Given that you've also posted in a thread on TourGuides, the following issue is more likely to occur and should be considered. Is there a chance that where you live, you have two nearby POI locations and each would create an alert but that your alert distance is so large that you are correctly receiving a double alert because both POI locations are within your alert distance? I can imagine how this would occur for occasional Rest Areas from the Rest Area Combined file where two rest areas, one for each highway direction, are located very close to the other (and where the one you don't expect an alert for is within 90 feet of your travelled roadway direction). From your original post, it's clear that you are an accomplished computer and GPS user very familiar with loading POIs and custom alerts, so it'd be a shame to give up trying to fix this.

@oldshortround

If you touch each wav file and compare it to the file let me know. It is possible that you have the same wav file with different names.Could be on the download site like that and no one has caught it yet. A lot of repeat info being posted so take your time and sort through it. The link I posted above will give you the correct sox.exe

I am sure we can together solve your problem. The first steps are to establish the facts?

Are you on a PC or a Mac?

What version of SOX are you using?

One last idea

It sounds like our OP may have given up but if others run into issues with duplicate POIs or alerts, one quick test can be done to see if the computer has duplicate files causing the issue. It is to run POI Loader in manual mode where you get the option to include/exclude each custom POI before loading it to the device.

Another option

Remove the file you know has the .wav file, rerun POI Loader and see if it still presents when in the vicinity. This verifies two things:

1) If the secondary .wav file is truly in the POI file you didn't load
2) If the proximity is the same entity that you thought you removed

Hope these help

It would be nice if someone posting a query and after exhaustive replies from members here who have taken the time to try and come up with a solution, that they would at least acknowledge defeat or post a thank you for any help received.

My opinion, but I'm old school !
