The Live Traffic portion of the Smartphone Link seems to consume a large amount of data (0.5Gb for a 2 hour trip). Can I turn of just the Live Traffic and still have the hands free phone work?
Please confirm
Please confirm your results. Many posts here show that the Garmin Smartphone Link (with traffic, premium weather and more) consumes a very small amount of smartphone data so that even folks with a 200 MB monthly limit (FreedomPop owners) or who pay for every MB of data (Tracfone users who tend to buy the 1-year 1200min/1200MB/1200text service) have no issue with the data consumed by the Garmin app.
Your 500MB for a 2-hr trip result seems very unlikely to be caused by the Garmin app which is why it'd be worth confirming.
Regarding your question, I think (this needs to be confirmed by others before you believe it) that the Smartphone Link app is either on or off and that you can't selectively disable individual features enabled in the app.

Your experience means that SmartPhone Link uses little data.
