I want to transfer the Trip Planner file from one GPS to Another. How do I do that. Transfer from a 3590 to a 60LMTHD Drive Smart. What files do I look for in 3590.
The files your looking for are in the .system/Trips folder on the old Nuvi and can be transferred to the .system/trips folder on the new one.
You'll need to insure that both units are in USB and not MTP mode, and the required changes are made to the default View options in Windows, in order to see the .system folder and it's contents.
The Trips folder may not be created on the new unit until you create a trip on the device or in Basecamp and save it to the device. If you don't see the Trips folder AFAIK you can just create one inside the .system folder.
1- Go into your folder system on your computer and make sure there isn't a check mark beside " Hide protected operating system files"
2- Go into .system folder in your GPS
3- Find the trip folder and copy the contents onto your second GPS
I have a 2699. My computer is set to display all hidden folders and files. It is set to display system files.
My 2699 has only two listings: internal storage and memory card.
Under internal storage: demo, Garmin, GPX, Help, keyboards, poi, text, themes vehicle, voice, D494401.ver, Garmin Express.jrl
I cannot find or get it to display the .system folder. I have also searched all files on Nuvi for trip references.
Appreciate any advice on finding my many stored trips!
Sneeky - found the problem was MTP mode, not USB. Didn't know about the trick to force it to mass storage mode. Once I did that - presto - found the folder and the trip folder!
OK, how do I create an AFAIK folder, Do I make a folder and call it AFAIK, Do I put the trip file in that folder?
I have Windows 7 and I start by searching for folder.
Then when I see Folder Options I open it.
I then click view
I then make sure there isn't a check mark beside "Hide protected operating system files"
Then go into your GPS and you'll see the .system folder and scroll down and see the Trip folder.
Please advise if you encounter any problems
My issue was MTP mode and not USB mode. Didn't know about how to force it to USB mode. Once I found a post on how to get to USB mode everything showed up and I found my Trips. thanks!!!
I have been wanting to do this for years.
Glad to have helped you figure it out
No - AFAIK is an acronym for something but I don't know what. I don't like acronyms.
AFAIK = As Far As I Know
Thanks for the heads-up!
MM to the rescue ... again ... 9 years and counting
If you are on Windows 10 open you File Explorer.
Click the View tab at the top.
On the far right open the Options list
Click "Change folder and search options"
Click the view tab.
Under Hidden files and folders select "show hidden files, folders, and drives.
THEN scroll down to the 4th option and uncheck
"Hide protected operating system files"
There are two options in Windows 10 I have to change to see the system files on my notebook.
... if you still don't see the .system folder you will need to change your device to mass storage rather than mtp mode.
1. Bring up the volume screen on the GPS.
2. On the upper right hand corner, press your finger on screen and hold for appx 10 seconds.
3. Shortly you will see the developers screen.
4. Find MTP Settings and touch it.
5. It will show 3 selections. MTP Auto Detect,Mass Storage and Mass Storage Single Session.
6. Touch Mass Storage as your selection.
7. Select save.
