Smart Link Bluetooth Problems with NuviCam

Hello everyone,

So I got the NuviCam for almost 2 months now. The problem I have is auto connecting the Smart Link app with NuviCam. I have to connect it manually every single time I get into the car. If I step out of the car for one minute, it will disconnect and never get reconnected automatically again.

I am using iPhone 6 and my NuviCam got the latest update.

Have you guys faced the same issue before?Any solutions?

Did you find any fix for

Did you find any fix for your Bluetooth issues?
I am also having similar types of issues with iphone 6. Bluetooth will disconnect for no reason and then I get first message " IOS Services stopped working". and then the second message "Iphone disconnected". The only fix is either restart Nuvicam or uncheck Bluetooth under setting and re-check it to restart Bluetooth on Nuvicam.

The second big problem is that you have to keep Phone calls enabled otherwise, Nuvicam BLE connection will keep connected but when you re-start Nuvi next time, Bluetooth will not connect with Iphone 6. BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) connection feeds data from Smartphone Link app to Nuvi for traffic, weather etc.

I have opened a case with Garmin and waiting for their resolution.

FWIW, Bluetooth issues have pretty much always existed between Garmin units and whatever they are connected to, trying to connect to or trying to stay connected to. This has existed from way back beginning with the nuvi 760. It sadly pretty much always ends up in a finger-pointing match. rolleyes

Yes, agreed that Bluetooth

Yes, agreed that Bluetooth connectivity has always been bit problem. But this time it is really a problem. Bluetooth connection is lot stable in 3597 and it never disconnects. But it is an issue in Nuvicam. It disconnects periodically. Since I use Smartlink app so I notice it a lot. I have sent logs to Garmin and they are investigating the issue. If you uncheck phone call option in Bluetooth, it won't connect next time when you start Nuvicam. I can not blame Apple for this issue because Bluetooth is working fine in 3597.

Thanks for the feedback

Thanks for the feedback guys. I didn't know that enabling phone calls (which sucks) will solve the disconnection issue. I will enable it until Garmin solve this problem. So thank for this tip!

Regarding the disconnect message you get out of no where and for no reason. I noticed, at least in my case, that my phone is still connected regardless of what that message says.

For this of you who opened a ticket with Garmin. Any updates yet?

I called Garmin support last

I called Garmin support last Thursday and I was told that my BT logs were sent to the developers and they were still working on the issue. I was told that I will be contracted once they have a resolution ready very soon. The resolution could be new firmware update. So still waiting..

Sounds very promising!

Sounds very promising! especially that it is escalating within the tech department in Garmin.

Thank you for your effort & please keep us updated since many people suffer from the same issue!

Sure, I will report back on the forum as soon I hear anything from Garmin.

Well, I went through the hoops too.

Well, I went through the hoops too. NuviCam and my iphone 6 plus do not get along.

The standard phone stuff is solid. But unlike my 2797, which seems to start smartlink on my phone when it used to pair, the nuvicam puts up a screen saying 'Start smartlink on your phone'. As soon as I do, it connects, great! Except withing 2 minutes, it says 'IOS Services disconnected'

Then if I look at bluetooth on the phone, BTLE client keeps connecting and disconnecting, over and over.

Reported to Garmin. Did the log thing. They pretended they never heard of the problem, blah, blah, blah, said they are looking at logs and should have an answer soon.

Problem is, it will not go any further! I have gone down this path with bluetooth and Garmins back to 2595 days (3+ years)!

It will never get solved. Garmin refuses to add a parrot bluetooth chip to the unit, which would make it perfect.

You are absolutely right. I

You are absolutely right. I sent them logs etc but still not getting any solid promise. Last week they admitted that they are aware of the issue but still no ETA.
Secondly, I have found a workaround which works very well but it is still a pain in the neck to do it every time.

This is what I do... Go to settings. Select phone calling. It will connect to your phone and iOS service will start working. Then uncheck phone. After this your iOS service (BT LE) will remain connected until you shut down Nuvicam.

With this workaround I have driven all day without any issues.

Last software update fixed

Last software update fixed all Bluetooth issues. Now it BLE (IOS Service) connects separately from phone calling.

But now I found another bug in the Smartlink app. When you start your Garmin, it does not start Smartlink app automatically. You have to open the app first then it connects flawlessly.
