No Sound (when plugged in to power)

I have a Garmin nuvi 3597 that when plugged in to power in the vehicle I get no voice or beeps when the screen is touched. When I disconnect power by removing the GPS from the holder or unplugging the power cord, I have sound. There was a previous discussion on sound but my issue is different. Bad cord, maybe?

This may be a dumb question on my part, but does your GPS holder by any chance have a plug for an external speaker?

Excellent thought Melaqueman. The 3597 cradle has a speaker in the cradle itself that takes over for the built in speaker when the nuvi is mounted. It is possible the OP has a speaker failure in the cradle ... sure sounds like a plausible explanation for this odd problem. I do think the Volume and mute settings on the 3597 may be controlled independently based on whether the unit is in the cradle or not. so that is something to check
