Custom POI / POI Loader installation trouble

Hello,

I use POI Loader to install my Custom POIs on a Garmin 2455. I get the message that they have been installed, but when I check in Categories under Custom POIs it says "No matches found".

I am using a fault free CVS file and a micro SD card.

What is the problem?

Grateful for any help!

Björn

Do this test, please

What I would like you to do is to download the Rest Areas file from http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6643 into a BRAND NEW FOLDER on your computer (maybe call it TestPOILoader, or whatever).

Now, attach your 2455 to your computer and run POI Loader. You are going to pick "Garmin Device" > 2455 > "Install new...: > Browse to the folder into which you downloaded the Rest Areas file and click on it > let POI Loader run.

You should get a message that you loaded 2275 POIs to your computer.

Please report.

I had that problem

When I loaded files that were over 600 miles away from my locaction they did not show but they are in there and did show when I was closer to them.

This may be your problem if they are far away.

If you got the installed message the pois should be there.

Make sure you touched Where to ,categories and touched custom pois last.Thenyou should see the list of the custom pois installed. If not see See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721 for installing custom pois.

Agree

I agree that this may the only problem. To check whether the original custom POIs are really in the nuvi, scroll the map to an area close to the POIs (less than 600 miles) and touch on any point on the map. Then touch "set location." Check Categories/Custom POIs again to see if the POIs are listed.

Reboot the nuvi 2455

After you run POI Loader, it says that the POIs have been installed. This is almost true. They will be fully installed after the nuvi is rebooted!

Garmin 2455 manual -

Turning Off the Device

You can turn off the device completely.
1) Hold the Power key for 3 seconds.

NOTE: If you hold the Power key for less
than 3 seconds, the device enters sleep
mode.

2) Select Off.

You only see the 50 closest

You do realize that regardless of how many POI's are in a particular folder, only the 50 closest will be seen. For example, if there are 100 wineries in your winery folder you'll only be able to browse the 50 closest ones. As you travel along, the closest 50 will change and you'll start seeing other wineries that weren't originally visible.

This was something different

The files up loaded were for Budapest and none of the files showed up until I was within 600 miles of Budapest.
Thanks though

about 10,000 meters

When mgarledge had the problem with certain POIs not showing up, we determined that it was because the POI in question was a bit over 10,000 meters from the device (my limit turned out to be 6263 miles).

As far as the 50 closest POIs being the limit to what is shown, bear in mind that these 50 can be a long way away from the device. Consider this: You load a number of POI that are in Alaska only. http://www.poi-factory.com/node/28774. Say this goes into a new folder called Test Alaska. Use POI Loader to put Test Alaska on your device. Now do a Where To? > Categories > [down arrows] > Custom POIs > Test Alaska.

Note how far away these POIs are from your location.

KM?

Do you mean 10,000 kilometers?

I'm losing it

Yes - 10,000 KM

Thanks for catching it.

I guess I ought to go back and work some more on this. I was almost certain that 10,000 KM would be the limit because the software is designed using the metric system and 10,000 is a nice round number. I actually determined it to be 10,079 KM based on my testing - which was to a location almost due East from my location. I wondered if the bearing had any difference with it. But, I did not follow up once I was sure that distance was mgarledge's problem.
