I was torn on whether to start a new topic or add on to the old thread about address verification and geocoding. I decided to start this one and add a link to the legacy thread.
I am posting this URL in case it is helpful to anybody creating POIs or if you just want to check an address for fun. The reason I started looking into this is I have noticed that a number of websites autocomplete addresses as you start to enter them. I have also noticed that not all are created equally. By that I mean some will give a number of potential address when I enter the 5 digits of my home address and amd the first 3 letters of my street. Others offer my exact address with in that same scenario.
Smarty offers me my exact street address with 5 digits and 3 letters. Maybe this would be helpful to people creating POIs and maybe this is already being discussed. This also offers my geocoded GPS coordinates. I also did a cut and past of the GPS coordinates offered and used them on Google Maps. It took me right to the middle of my rooftop!
I think Google Maps, Waze and perhaps others do something similar.
I was also thinking that this functionality might be handy to have on a GPS for finding street addresses, but it would need to be updated much more frequently than City Navigator is. It probably would need to be linked to the web, like Google Maps. I haven't checked to see if this works when Google Maps are downloaded to use offline.
