Keeping The Windmill Alive - Your Last Trip? – June 2014

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you used it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.).

Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

DC to Myrtle Beach RT

We just completed our third round trip from DC to Myrtle Beach this year. We are in the process of moving down there. Our 3590LMT saved us a fair amount of time sitting in backups along RT 95 due to both traffic accident alerts and alternate route suggestions. Our next trip down there will be the move. Traffic is so bad in the DC area that we now leave town at 4:30 AM which pretty well assures us of getting through Richmond even before their rush hour starts. The RT 95 Speed Trap POI came in handy as well.

Just errands ...

I love the IQ feature on my GPS, though, as it sends me using different routes depending on historical traffic patterns. It seems to save me quite a bit of time, even though the GPS doesn't get live traffic updates.

A must buy

I'm going to England in August and have been considering buying the City Navigator maps for Europe. Has anyone out there used these maps and, if so, are they worth the $99 price tag?

I have driven from London to Scotland by following the coast roads south of London and counter clockwise up to Scotland and back down the west coast. I could not have done this without having my Garmin and a preplanned route.
I also took a tour of Ireland and the Garmin took me over paths that I could not ever have seen but it got me there.
If you are putting in POI's make sure by Google Earth that they are correct. I found out that the Book Of Kells was in the middle of a golf course in the country.
I just returned from a trip to London and used the Garmin to tell me which direction to go once I got out of the tubes.

Maps

If you are taking a smart phone or tablet to Europe it would be cheaper and less to carry to get the Garmin Viago and buy the Europe to Go Map. $.99 for app and $9.99 for the Map to Go to use off line.

Would have been nice to have as I took my tablet and my Nuvi. Would need only to take my tablet for email, home web cam and Maps if Viago was offered just a little earlier. The less to carry on vacation the better.

A Question

You might already know this but if you are going to spend any time in London then it is cheaper to buy a travel card (7 days of unlimited bus, rail, tube and Boat travel in first 6 zones) or Oyster Card which can be a daily card if you are spending less than 7 days in town.
You would spend more time looking for a place to park and then unless you do one big money exchange the fees would add up.
When I did my tour, I bought the travel card and on the 7th day we took the tube to Heathrow and rented a car and avoided the parking problem.

Too much travel

Back from Augusta, GA off to Baltimore. Only for a day, though.

Updated the POIs we use...

now we're ready for our 4th of July trip!

Washington, DC

Be careful here - they've got LOTS of speed cameras in addition to red light cameras!

GPS destinations

Our recent trip, greatly assisted by our RVGPS took us around Oregon's covered wooden bridges, which had been pre-loaded from Good Sam trip planner. Our first real test for the GPS after leading us astray twice last year.

Summer--YEA

Finally, summer.
Missing some features that my Nuvi provides vs. Lincoln navigation. Think I will start using Nuvi but use Sirius for traffic....if I ever start traveling again.

This weekend my trip was out

This weekend my trip was out on the sailboat. I was out in some wicked winds gusting 33km/h. Was tilting me over in the sailboat to tipping point and was great fun!

Just a drive

We just wanted to drive so we drove to the next town and back. There was a donut shop the car would not pass.

Postings

Last winter I was away in Mexico as I will be again this coming winter.
I lost my windmill and it took a bit of work to get it back.
My question is? How often does one need to post per month to keep the Windmill alive?
Thx

It's weekly, you can miss a week but not sure how many.
I'm sure someone on here knows.
