Garmin nuvi 40 - custm poi folder name

Hello,
I loaded the Redbox locations custom poi (csv) to my nuvi 40. When I use my gps and select Where To?/Extras/Custom POIs on the gps I do not get a folder that specifies the Redbox pois. Is that possible to have that option?

p.s I did search the forum but did not find my question.

Thank you,
Compassrose

Just to be sure

Welcome to The Factory!

Just to be sure, are you tapping WhereTo, then tapping Extras, then tapping Custom POIs?

Many have been caught in the past by seeing the Custom POIs and expecting the loaded POIs to be below that. However, you need to tap Custom POIs to actually see them.

I guess to be super safe, can you also confirm that you used the POI Loader program on your computer to load the POI file to your nuvi?

poi folder name

Thanks CraigW,
Yes I did use POI Loader. I also specified my SD card as the storage location. I ran it twice in attempts to troubleshoot, the second time when restarting my nuvi it prompted me if I wanted to make the new files available if the card were removed and I did allow that.
I do see the locations, in order of proximity, but nothing on my GPS indicates those are Redbox kiosk locations. I have not loaded any other POI files and am wondering if I do that how will I know what is what? Is this where the icon becomes important?
Thanks

categories

You may want to set up categories for your custom pois. See. http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721

To see the icons you will need to zoom in to see them . Favorites do show up better on the map. See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/4359

By the way welcome to the site.

Thanks Charlesd45,
The link you sent answered some other questions I didn't even know I had. smile

Most likely you are talking

Most likely you are talking about the sox.exe and wav file for the voice alerts. A nice feature to have with your custom poi files. Good luck. Post back and let us know how it goes,

I think you'll benefit by associating an icon with each POI file:

Others have already mentioned adding a custom sound and that's a nice touch as well, especially for POIs for which you have alerts set (e.g., Rest Areas, redlight or speed cameras, etc.)--maybe not so much for Redbox. For sounds, check the faq:

I suggest trying icons first.

[Edit] Whoops, I see charlesd45 mentioned icons as well as audio. My morning coffee hasn't kicked in yet.
