Took about 4 hours to down load (dinosaur DSL) and 30 minutes to install.
Only saw Garmin Express on the website, didn't see MapUpdater, which is what I used last time.
Prior to this, I had 151MB of free space. Now I have 49MB (I only have the 49 States map, not North America) so I doubt I'll get to do another update without using the Micro SD card I have.
...Only saw Garmin Express on the website, didn't see MapUpdater, which is what I used last time...
Correct, you will only be able to use GarminMapUpdater if you find, download and run GarminMapUpdater. Otherwise, you will be directed to Garmin Express.
Got my nuvi 660 updated! Actually, I installed the maps on the SD card and renamed the 3 new files as previously discussed:
gmapsupp.gma
gmapsupp.img
gmapsupp.unl
With the SD card installed in the card slot of my laptop, the installation step went much faster than updating the nuvi 660 directly (slow USB 1.0 port). I also updated the map files on the laptop for BaseCamp and then uninstalled the previous map version files from the laptop.
Right now, I am updating just the BaseCamp maps on my desktop PC. So far, so good.

I don't know what coverage of the map you are updating on your SD card. Be aware that map CNNA 2014.10, covering Full North America and Mexico are 1,957.248 KB. Your Nuvi 660 only can read maps UNDER 2GB.
The next map update 2014.20 will surely exceed the limit. If only using the lower 48 states that will be fine.
Sorry Rookie, I should have explained that I was passing through Toronto on the 401 on a road trip, the speed limit was showing on the express way OK but I could not say if it would still be working if I had moved of the main highway.

Interesting -- on my Mac, the Lifetime Maps Updater didn't find the update! When I went in through the web Garmin Communicator, the dashboard said I had some software updates pending (not seen by the older tools), so I did those. The dashboard also showed a map update, which it wanted Garmin Express to install.
What the hey, go for it -- I let it install Garmin Express, which downloaded the new map and installed it without any problems.

I loaded all of North America.
If I end up with a problem on a future map update, I'll try dropping Mexico first to see if that buys me enough room.

After updating to 2014.10, my route to home that is 38 miles and takes 1 hr was calculated at 44 miles & 1:23 minutes. Instead of taking the right out of the parking lot as Garmin was showing, I took a left and it recalculated to 43 mles 1:15 minutes. A little further along the journey when it was at 42 miles & 1:13 minutes, I didn't take the path shown on the GPS and took my normal path - now it recalculated to 39 miles & 1:12 minutes. Lastly, when it was at 34 miles 1:02 minutes, again I didn't take the path shown and it recalculated to 31 miles & 55 minutes. In all cases, when I didn't take the path shown on the GPS, the miles got shorter as well as the remaining time to destination. Clearly an issue with 2014.10 as the GPS was routing normally before the update. I can't be positive if the issue is totally related to the map version and/or the other software that was updated at the same time. Good Luck (3590LMT)

Can you confirm that the Avoidances haven't changed and are what you want them to be?
This map update applies to all Garmin devices that have (or could have) the City Navigator North America map installed.
To install the map, you either need a new device that came with City Navigator and is entitled to a free map update, to folks who have an unused One-Time nuMaps update and want to use it, or devices with lifetime nuMaps updates.
I used express to download the latest version a week or so ago. Went fine, took a couple of hours on my slow connection, but all went well.
Lots of new and updated built in Points Of Interest. Some roads that I use have been updated, have found a couple with problems that are still the same. Probably need to report them!
Seems like the tracking is updating faster than it used to on the previous map version. No jerky moves at any time, and the intersection points of interest are great and mostly up to date, at least in my area.
Installed directly into my 3490 flashed from a 3790.

ok I installed 2014.10 on my 1450lm and took a trip 1st stop was in Idaho went off gps for lunch after lunch gps back on "recalculating" it tried to send me down a dead end road "road was that for years" next went to ely nev same problem, next went to vegas ever get that turn left then turn right on streets with havy traffic grrrrrrr, so next was Williams ariz that went well anyway the gps with the update did ok, just don't leave the road for lunch and stay out of heavy traffic and allways carry a paper map lol

I put the last maps on an SD card (out of room in the 660) so I'll repeat that same process using Map Updater.
But first, I'll backup everything before starting the update.

Routing issue with 2014.10
After updating to 2014.10, my route to home that is 38 miles and takes 1 hr was calculated at 44 miles & 1:23 minutes.
