I downloaded the link here

I downloaded the link here for the new larger JCV file D3060100A, but it would not work. I drove it and then also simulated mode and still didnt work. Anyone have any ideas. I just deleted the old JCV files from my 2460 "system" folder and replaced with the new file, but no success.

Not for the 2460

Two things. This file only works with the new City Navigator NA 2014.10 map. If you have an older version of the City Navigator North America map, this is not the jcv file for you.

Also, the large jcv file is most useful with older model nuvis like the 8x5 and 1xxx series that use full-screen Junction Views. Your 2460 gets the proper large split-screen JCV file during the map update and does not need this file. If you have City Navigator NA 2014.10 on your nuvi 885, the large JCV file will work and be much better than the small jcv file supplied with the 2014.10 map update.

Delete this large jcv from your nuvi, then go to your computer backup files for your current map and copy the jcv that you deleted from the nuvi earlier back to the nuvi.

On the last update, I was

On the last update, I was able to download the larger JCV file and replace the smaller split screen version, however, it is possible that on this new map update that you can not use the larger JCV file on the 2460. If so, it will be the first time that I was not able to replace the smaller file with the larger. Can anyone comfirm that this new larger JCV file can not be used on this new map update?

Good question

Now that is a good question and I'd like to know the answer, too, but since I prefer the split screen jcv, I don't think I'll tinker with my 2460 to see if I can duplicate your finding.

I notice with the current

I notice with the current JCV smaller file for the 2014.10 update, the JCV file , also has an .unl file attached to it. So I deleted both files and replaced with the new larger file. Maybe this UNL file is the problem, if Garmin is now requiring an unlock code for the JCV file. Of course, possibly the new larger JCV file is already unlocked and doesnt need the .unl file like the smaller file does. Beats me. I'll wait for others to respond to that issue.

So What Happens When...

What happens if you DL a map and decide to option for lesser size geography due to a memory size, then later decide to add an SD card and DL the entire map update. Have you just made 2 of your 4 DLs for the year?

You can download your maps as many times as you want (or can stand the time requirements). Garmin releases map updates up to 4 times per year.

This is misinformation. To clarify...

If you have Lifetime Updates for your qualified GPS unit:

1. You have a set time limit of one year from that particular map's release date to download that release to your qualified GPS unit.

2. There is no limit to the number of times you can download that map update to your qualified GPS unit. The only limit is the one year time frame. After that one year time frame, the download will no longer be active.

3. You do NOT have to pay any "extra" amount to download the map if you download it more than four times. The "up to four times" is how many map updates Garmin can supply during the course of a year.

Wow, you are correct. At least for the nuvi 2460, the split-screen jcv file that comes standard with the 2014.10 map update includes a .unl file with the same name as the jcv file!

A question for all nuvi folks: How many nuvi models see a .unl file for the JCV file after updating to 2014.10?

That's a great discovery, gerryd.

I too will not load the larger JCV file on my 2460 since I prefer the split screen. By using the large JCV file the junction view only appears for seconds then disappears. The split screen one remains on until you pass the junction.

Do you by any chance have more than one JCV file either on your Nuvi and SD card or the combination of both?

You can only have one JCV file and it MUST correspond to the map version it was intended for.
Check your files and see if there is more than one.

For the 2460 using map 2014.10 (full North America), the default split screen file is D3191090A at 453,916 KB.

@CraigW
I confirm my 2460 with the split screen JCV file include a .unl file with the same name (D3191090A.unl).

Edited:
Just edited at the JCV unlock file. It too has 25 characters but is different from the gmapprom.unl file. Maybe there is a coded correlation, but nothing I am capable of deciphering.

That's as it should be. No unlock codes will ever be the same, even if the JCV file (in this case)is tied to whatever locked main map you may have.

I found an fast and easy way to completly get rid of Garmin Express, including the notifcation area icon.

- Go to the GarminExpress webpage and download the newest version of Garmin Express:

http://software.garmin.com/en-US/express.html

- run the downloaded program file

- the first screen that appears will have an option at the bottom to DELETE Garmin Express. Select that and it appears to completely wipe the program from your computer.

Once the uninstall is complete you don't have to continue through the GarminExpress installation process.

2014.10

I just looged into MyGarmin and now I see that an update is available.

I'll try my luck installing to my Lifetime devices this weekend if I get the time.

2014.10 & Nuvi 3760

I downloaded the 2014.10 map update to the 3760 using MapUpdater. All went well. It took only 55 minutes to download, prepare, and install the map.

The 3760 has a 4GB capacity. It gets a very, very small Split Screen JCV file (D3192090A.JCV - 158,691) installed with the map.

The was NO .unl file with the small Split Screen JCV version.

This small JCV file provided by Garmin for the 3760 does not have enough JCV content to make it useful. I moved it to my computer and replaced it with the Large JCV file which I prefer. The Large JCV works great, just as it has for all previous updates.

Something

Something is "stuck" in your computer. The whole program and the notification icon are gone if I run the Windows Uninstall or if I follow the process in my post above.

What happens if you right click on the notification area icon and select Exit? Does the icon disappear? Does it reappear after you reboot the computer?

Since the ExpressTray does not show in the small box (with nine items) when I click on the up arrow on the taskbar, it cannot be right-clicked on. When I click on the up arrow to open the entire Notification area items it does not allow me to right click on any of the notification items.

If you research the Notification Tray you will see that old icons and programs remain in the Notification area and cannot easily be removed. I have tried all sorts of things to get rid of my old disabled Garmin ExpressTray.exe in my Notification area without success. Nothing seems to get rid of it. Other people have had the same problem getting rid of old unused/disabled programs/icons in their Notification area. It's not just me and my computer.

Here are a couple of Google links on how to do it (BUT nothing works):

Never knew

Never knew this was a problem until I clicked on those links. I don't recall ever having a program that left it's icon in the Notification area after the program was uninstalled. I guess I'm been lucky. smile

I have a Windows 8 laptop and a Windows 7 laptop. I simply click on the 'Up Arrow" on either machine and the notifcation bar box opens and stays open for 3 or 4 seconds. Long enough to easily right click on any icon, including the Garmin Express icon and once clicked the icon's menu box stays open until I select something from the menu or click somewhere else on the desktop.

If the icon I want is displayed in the area that is always visible, I simply right click on it to get the menu.

The POI's ARE updated with every new map release.

Garmin Express & 3790

Tried the new map on my 3790 on my new iMac and got the message it failed so I went to my Mac Book and it started, went to item 38 and stayed there so I left it connected and went to bed. This morning it was still at item 38 so I quit and went over to the iMac and connected. The download went straight thru. Apparently it downloaded but Garmin Express didn't show it. It installed the map quickly (for Garmin) and all is well. My 660 downloaded and installed with no problem. Both maps work fine but the 660 shows intersections off by at least 100 feet while the 3790 is right on. I find that an interesting thing. I don't really like BaseCamp anyway so I'm not even trying to get the map on the computer. I'll use the old one there.

gmap3d is the data that produces the 3d Building on those same devices.

I got rid of Garmin Core Update Service a long time ago. Everything 'Garmin Express' is uninstalled, gone, removed, deleted...poof. Yet I still have the [Garmin Express] icon and the [ExpressTray.exe] name showing in my taskbar Notification area. You see - when certain programs are uninstalled Microsoft does not automatically delete what was in the taskbar Notification area. The problem of the ghost program is not necessarily the fault of Garmin because other non-Garmin programs that are uninstalled could likely leave a ghost behind as well.

Again, all things Garmin Express are long gone, except for the ghost name and icon in my taskbar's Notification area. I'm guessing that you likely have some old program ghosts in your Notification area too.

I'll just have to live with having an uninstalled, non-working, Garmin Express program and icon in my taskbar's Notification area.
