LAKELAND | City commissioners voted 5-2 on Monday to approve a contract with its red-light camera provider that could bring 10 to 30 additional cameras to Lakeland inter-sections.

I was talking to one of the city commissioners over beers while watching college football Saturday night and he said this was coming down the pipeline.

My wife and I were driving on Hwy 19 in nearby Pasco county with the GPS turned on. The alert sound for red light cameras was happening at almost every intersection. It was so frequent that we started laughing when we found an intersection they missed. She asked if the alert could be changed to a cash register sound. What a great idea!

The cash register sound, that is a good one. I will have to tell my Lakeland City Commissioner friend this joke. He will get a kick out of it. He is against Red Light Cameras as a revenue generator and has been since day one.

Found The Sound
I found a good cash register sound for free at http://www.freesound.org/people/Benboncan/sounds/91924/. It lasts about two seconds. I might need to concatenate it to four seconds so it gets my attention.
UPDATE: I had a chance to test my GPS this morning this sound. It replaces the Star Trek "Red Alert" sound I have been using for quite some time. It would run seven seconds. This 'kaching' sound runs two seconds. Definite less annoying and perhaps more appropriate.
I support the right to keep and arm bears.
Red Lights cams, the new cash crop near you
Red lights are like mushrooms in some areas. politicians say they are for safety and decrease the yellow timer for a better crop harvesting.
That`s why the cash register is a good idea.
