Anyone From Globe, AZ?

If there is anyone from Globe, AZ on here and you have the time, could you provide some very useful redlight/speed camera info to Miss POI?

While passing through Globe, AZ this week I notice quite a few cameras while going through the main drag, i.e., U.S. 60 highway.

I provided the locations of 3 of the cameras but there were quite a few more that I was unable to log down.

It sure would be appreciated by someone I'm sure wink

From the article they are all speed cameras.

They must be desperate for money.

They must be desperate for money. People don't like that kind of automated traffic enforcement.

Two of the councilmembers voted no. Something to remember at election time for those that vote in Globe, AZ.

GLOBE — At Monday night’s meeting, the Globe City Council moved forward with the addition of Redflex photo radar cameras. Back in October the council approved a contract with Redflex traffic systems, and last Monday they followed through with a housekeeping resolution included in the original contract. The council approved Resolution No. 1565, an intergovernmental agreement with the Arizona Department of Transportation for the enforcement of the traffic laws of the state of Arizona. Although the agreement has already been made, Councilmen Lerry Alderman and Dezi Baker voted “nay” on this agreement. The council’s next step will be to decide on and submit the proposed sites to place the cameras. Plans have been made to discuss these locations at the council’s retreat on Feb. 1 at 5 p.m.

Miami Town Council to vote in Redflex

The Miami Town Council will be voting for or against Redlex. We are holding a protest on Monday night at 6:30 at the Miami Town Hall during the meeting. Anyone who opposes the cameras are asked to attend. Also anyone who recieved a Redflex citation in Globe and paid it or went to the school, most of the those citations were issued in violation of the law. We are are starting a class action lawsuit to get your money back and those points removed from your lisence. Contact me at news4susank@yahoo.com

I don't live there...

...but I do work in Globe.

Some of their cameras don't even work right. I've seen them flash a driver just leaving a stoplight at about 5mph. Other cameras (or flash units) are not even aimed at traffic. Hard to tell which ones are active and which ones are not.

Revenue and Safety

I went to this link assuming I would find support for a need of revenue, but found quotes from officials indicating that safety was the purpose.
Now, I realize that Automated Traffic Enforcement opponents always claim that revenue is the real reason, even though they have to admit that those providing the revenue actually broke the law (and should be fined).

GLOBE, AZ - Despite discussions in our state legislature, one small Arizona town moves forward with the speed camera debate.

"Our hopes are that it will slow people down going through Globe and decrease the accidents in our area," said Police Chief Lee Kinnard.

As of April 1, five new cameras are up and running. For the first month, they're only giving warnings.

But Kinnard says he thinks they will help, despite them being taken off state freeways.

"I had seen how they worked on the freeway and they actually slowed traffic, and we thought it would be a good idea here to help us on our road to slow down the traffic," said Kinnard.

But the residents and people who drive these streets everyday shared their mixed feelings with ABC15.

"Well, if they help people from speeding it will help this place out. There's been some instances around here," said one resident Tommy Salsido.

"It's gonna be like sprinting from one speed camera to the next so, I don't think its going to be effective," said another resident Jessica Strickland.

The locals in Globe know where the cameras are, but it could be the visitors from the rest of Arizona trying to escape the heat who will get caught by the flashes.

"That will be a problem for them. They need to slow down," said Salsido. "I just hope they're careful and that they don't keep away from here."

Kinnard said the cameras were placed where car accidents are occurring most."

A request...

If anyone who is reading this thread, could you get the actual posted speed limits for each the cameras and submit them to Miss POI here? I submitted the locations of the cameras originally but did not have the actual posted speed limits at the time. May be awhile before I get back up to Globe.

Speeds

Speeds for the Globe cameras would be helpful. We still need speeds for the cameras on US 60 and the one at Ash & 3rd.

@pkdmslf
Thanks for mentioning this.

No More Cameras

Within the last few months the city of Globe, AZ has removed ALL red-light and speed cameras...fixed and mobile. The nearby town of Miami however still has a few.

@tghowe

Thanks for the heads up.

It looks like the city council approved a resolution to remove the cameras a few months ago.

Here are a link to a news article that mentions the change:

I've marked them as removed, and the change will show in the camera files we publish on Wednesday.

Thanks again,
