Keeping the Windmill Alive - Your last trip? - October 2012

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

In Hawaii

We're in Hawaii right now so keeping the windmill active is not so easy. GPS works here too. Here is a shot of the lava lake activity on Kiloea last night from the Hawaii Volcanic Observatory.

This week's trip - 2 days in Seattle

put together the itinerary using the Seattle Tourism site (2daysinSeattle.com), then created a custom POI file for my Nuvi.

Should work reasonably well to not only find our hotel but the next closest attraction as we work through our list of 'must see / do / eat' places.

Last Trip - October 2012

Flew to Knoxville Tenn on the 4th - Drove to Sewanne, Tenn to University of the South where Granddaughter just started College. Took a lot of winding roads to get to very stoney, winding, "slide off if you don't gun it" driveway to log cabin our whole family rented for long weekend. Wife and I left Saturday evening and let GPS take us thru the mountains back to Knoxville for our Sunday morning flight out.

weekend trip

My trusty Garmin got me to the Groff funeral home in Milan OH this weekend to see my friend Joe for the last time.

Tennessee

Two days of Old Time Mountain Music at the festival and eating ribs and pulled pork. I gained a few pounds.

Mt. Nebo, WV

Drove from Mentor, Ohio, to Mt. Nebo, West Virginia, for a long weekend with other family and friends. That part of WV has great scenery and nice people, but MAN! it is truly out in the middle of nowhere.
A good time was had by all, though.

Took a ferry ride...

Took a short trip to Harsens Island, MI to visit a friend. Had to take the ferry over to the island (no bridges to the island). Was interesting to see the nuvi showing me in the river.

Rehobeth Beach Delaware didn't go to the beach the outlet stores LoL

Finished the adventure...

and made it home yesterday. A 2789 mile R/T motorcycle adventure to San Antonio. Great ride and wife did an outstanding job on her motorcycle!

Last trip

Flew out to California and brought along my Garmin as usual. Never ceased to be amazed at this technology ever. When I was still flying for a living, we slowly converted over to GPS for navigation. Great technology.

Stresses in my life

Drove to WV, picked up my mother, brought her back to TN for a visit. Took her to Pigeon Forge (Titanic museum) and on to Knoxville and dropped her off at my mother-in-law's.

Oh, BTW

I went to Europe for a bit.

On the way back never before saw O'Hare so crowded at the customs' booths. It looked crowded like Ellis Island in old b/w photos. 1 hr standing in line with no fresh air and kids crying, after 9 hrs flight.

Work and Around Town

Nothing major this week, work, shopping, library. Enjoying the fall like weather at home this weekend!

Just taking it day by day.

OK

If you drive in Winter Garden Florida, they dont have a redlight cameras, but yes they have Police Officer, and in many places the speed limit is 35 MPH so be very carefull if you want to save 250 dollars.

Ops...sounds like you are speaking from experience sad

Hmmm...

It would appear they have removed two red light cameras here in Winnipeg, Canada in the past month... gotta wonder why. I've got to do a little digging into this, then I'll report back if they have been permanently removed or just relocated to a more revenue-generating location.

well, we will continue later

Went to St. Louis and the City Museum

this past weekend, what a cool place! Glad we had the Garmin as there is currently a lot of construction going on in the St. Louis area. Took the wrong exit as the correct one was < 0.1 mile & not marked with the construction and ended up with a little detour in East St. Louis. Glad we had the Garmin and it was daylight! Found our way back to the ML King bridge and got to St. Louis & hit more construction downtown but eventually made it. Trip home was more of the same, with construction changing our route a couple times. Very thankful for the GPS, who knows how long we would have been lost without it!

YES and NO

Yes they stop me, no they give me a warning, was in the stop sign, was a stupid move on my part rolling the car.

Boston-Hartford-Boston

No errors and the 2595 steered me clear of one tie-up approaching Hartford.

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.

Canada to Mexico

Tuesday morning the 23rd October I will be on my way to about 120 miles south of Puerto Vallarta. A total of almost 3,000 miles with a stopover in Wichita, Ks. and a few overnights along the way. Goodbye winter weather for the next 5 1/2 months.

Using my 3790 but also taking my trusty 855 to make sure I have a working GPS along.

Went to Lubbock, Texas today. Well, not just Lubbock, but a particular store that we needed to visit. 560LMT took us right to the store, just over 100 miles from our home. Works well.
