Keeping the Windmill Alive - Your last trip? - October 2012

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

moving back

My Garmin 2460 took me to Yuba City, CA, from Fort Worth Texas for contractor work and recently brought me back. It chose Hwy 99 up and down California and IH40 from S. California to Amarillo. Enjoyed the trip very much. How I wish I could have stopped in some of the places I went through at 70mph.

While I was in California, the Garmin took me close to San Francisco to ride BART into SF., and up IH80 to Reno and Sparks NV. Fantastic scenery on that route too(with a side trip to Lake Tahoe).

Made it to GA today. For the first time the problem with GPS going crazy at south of the boarder didn't happen. I reported that a few years back so I guess they finally fixed it.

Last trip

My last trip was to Tuscany region of Italy. I obtained the map for Italy for my Nuvi 350. It worked great. Had a great time and drank a LOT of Chianti.

GPs performed as required. Except I wanted to take different route for part of the trip a few times and GPS was very aggravated. Kept telling me to make U turn, for 5 or 10 miles into the personally selected parts of the trip. The deviations were not out of the way, just a different road (like taking the Garden State Parkway instead of taking I95 through downtown NYC. Otherwise we got along together OK.

It's my first autumn down here, so I can't compare to other years, but they were really nice. Over four weekends, I covered the Parkway from Blowing Rock down to the south end at Great Smoky Mountains NP - where I saw elk on the side of the road!

A local winery

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary yesterday at Laurello's Winery in Harperfield Twp, about a 30-minute drive from our home. Our kids joined us and a nice time was had by all. Where did those 45 years go?

Alaska

Just got back from Alaska. My Nuvi 1690 served its purpose. We drove from Anchorage to Fairbanks and places in between. Back to Anchorge, then to Whittier and Seward and everywhere inbetween. It worked perfectly. Glad we had it with us.

Made a trip south past Baltimore and back over the weekend. No issues and no serious weather problems. Saw lots of bucket loaders heading north towards the Sandy impact zones - this could be a real mess.

Camping in Waycross GA

Atlanta to Laura S. Walker State Park for two nights of camping.

Am breaking in Nuvi 2595, or maybe it's the other way around. Traffic, Lane Assist & voice control new to me.

I have decided that the Lane assistre featu is more useful if the unit is being used in the portrait mode- much more natural view.

6- yes, 6 button presses needed to access extras menu, it doesn't seem to be in the voice command structure. I hope there's a better way.

It's actual chainmail

Keeps out noise suprising well!

I wore it to a party last weekend and had a much better time since I didn't actually have to listen to the drunk people tell me the same story over and over again. I just smiled and nodded. smile

Can only wear it for about 2.5 hours though, after that my head starts to hurt. It weighs 4.8 lbs.

Morehead City, NC to Santa Fe, NM

Moved our daughter out to Santa Fe. The GPS seems to give better results for "short" segments over really long segments.

Also there seemed to be more instances of "errors". We were in Little Rock, stopped at a red light getting ready to make a left turn. When the light turned green the GPS amazingly showed us up one street and gave us the recalculating message. But a few seconds later, it corrected itself!!! Pretty surprising to have your car "jump" almost a block without moving.
