Apple car play

The sound is too low. I can't have my radio or CD player on at the same time.

I have Apple car play in my Ford Escape and when I use Waze it comes up on the navigation screen and the sound comes through the vehicles sound system.
I still use my 2757 on long trips, guaranteed signal and no worries about roaming fees once I cross the border.

Erroneous waze police reports

Happy motoring everybody! wink

I don't think it's an "if". I think they "do".

On a 5 hour interstate trip this past week, about 90% of the "police reported ahead" warnings appeared to be false. Granted, some may have been errors, some may have been cops that moved before I got there, etc. But, I've been noticing more and more false police ahead reports lately.

Sometimes I think people are just putting stuff in randomly to get higher points. That said, unless they're setting up a sting to catch a bunch of speeders most of the time they don't seem to stay in one spot for very long.

Cops Monitor Waze

As soon as they see a report they have been spotted, they move on.

Waze puts a small number next to the screen icon indicating the number of reports for the same location. Unless I see a numbered police icon, I generally ignore it.

.

I like waze and think it uses about the same data as maps or Google maps on iOS but my beef is I swipe up to close it on my iPhone but it stays running in the background. I have to swipe up again and fully close it. Of all the apps in my iPhone, this is the only 1 that does not close when swiped. Very annoying.

Tap the magnifying glass in

Tap the magnifying glass in the lower left, then tap the off switch on the upper right. This will put Waze to sleep.

Apple CarPlay

Waze is now an app on my Subaru Apple Car Play. The maps and reports are available without touching the phone and are much better presented.

Learned something new

I have been doing the double tap on my iPhone to close Waze for as long as I’ve been using it and now I find out that there is an easier way of getting it to stop running in the background. Thanks phranc, for the info. (Now, if I could only get the thing to show me my exact speed limit on the navigation system in the car, I would be a happy camper, but I don’t think that it’s a Waze problem; I think the nav system just won’t display it.)

Waze

I tried Waze and like the features but the sound does not work on my phone so it is useless for driving because it is not safe to keep looking at my phone to check the map.

The sound in Waze has been very buggy the last couple/few months. Sometimes closing and then reopening Waze 1-3 times works. Also seems to be picky about whether the physical sounds slider on my iPhone is up/on. Also seems picky about Bluetooth being on/off.

Another thing: for a while I couldn't get any Waze sound. Discovered that if went into iPhone control center (swipe up), and raise the sound level to max, Waze sounds would work more often.

Waze Speed traps

I am currently on a trip to Massachusetts. I used my Garmin gps for the route and Waze on my iphone for road congestion, police and accidents. Waze is also the primary gps app for short local runs.

Use Waze (Android) & Garmin

I use both Waze and Garmin for long long trips. The warnings on Waze seem more timely and extensive.

Yes, Waze definitely has

Yes, Waze definitely has better traffic and police presence information. But it becomes hard to use it on longer trips due to battery drainage issues on phone. I use Waze for shorter spells on longer routes to get the best from both devices. I have noticed that my newer device Smaertdrive 6.1 has superior routing and traffic display.

No Problem

I have an apple power cord hard wired on my Honda so i dont have a problem leaving my phone on with waze for long trips. Just use a cigarette chargerr to power your phone.

The traffic warnings are 100% better on Waze than the garmin traffic. At least a dozen times or more i was alerted on waze for traffic alerts. Garmin only told me twice. I still prefer to use my Garmin for the routing and my Waze for everything else.

My garmin has a bigger screen than my phone. I will be using my Garmin's for many yes to come.

Good information from Waze

Because many of the updates are in real time by actual drivers, the information on Waze is good for travelers. We generally use Waze to compliment other router find software on our trips.

Using Waze more

I have been using Waze more along with my Nuvi GPS and have found the routing on Waze to be so much better than the Nuvi.

Waze bites

I've seen too many reports of speed traps on it. In reality, it's usually someone that gets pulled over for speeding. For example: I-10 just inside of the New Mexico state line, saw two reports of
"speed traps" the other day. There aren't any between the state line and Las Cruces...most people drive like idiots thru there.

I could be...

That the police run Waze too and once their cover is 'blown' they move on. Could be the officer/trooper just moved on. Most times, there truly was an official there for some reason and no one before you cleared it. Simply clear it yourself and make the app more useful.

waze

well from what I have been hearing google bought waze so they are pretty much one and the same now.

waze

I guess it works better than buttered bread if you never get anyplace out in the midwest or out in the southwest. it is totally worthless if you have no cell service and my Garmins will continue take me to the places I have to or want to go to.

Just use a app with offline maps.

That's true. Waze needs cell service to work properly. But if you are heading into areas without good cell service. Download the offline maps for google maps and use that instead. That way you don't need to carry the extra device just in case.

What's funny is that I put

What's funny is that I put in these two streets on OpenStreetMap - new construction of villas I stayed in on vacation that are not listed on Google Maps. The satellite view shows a paved road surrounded by dirt and construction equipment.

Compare: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=19/35.79112/-83.53948
and https://goo.gl/maps/aF1to6pntS1G1N5C9
Here's where it gets interesting, at least to me: Waze.com - at least their website's live map - lists those two streets, presumably copying the data from OSM since Google Maps hasn't added those streets. Why do that if Google owns them outright and can supply their maps? I can't really attest to their app since I don't use it.

Yet at the same time, waze's map is clearly not a direct rip of OSM judging by the detailed coverage of parking lot lanes.
Perhaps they're using some sort of hybrid of Google, OSM, and possibly other map sources?

You can learn how to report a Waze map issue here: https://support.google.com/waze/answer/7101380?hl=en&ref_top...

Waze has a community of map editors who will review the issue and correct it on the Waze map.

As far as....

...the police being in a certain spot and then being gone when you get there, I have an explanation for that. I live in an area where we have a local state patrol post. I was driving up the interstate a couple of weeks ago while using Waze. I had several "police ahead" pop-ups show up. I observed one unit with one vehicle stopped. However, that doesn't mean that other units were not working the area. On this particular section of interstate, the OSP range from the Hamilton county line to the Clinton county line; a distance of about 26 miles. It is not uncommon for a trooper to do a stop, write a citation, and then continue on their way. Ir could also be that the same trooper has done several stops and no one cleared the pop-up when they got to the spot and no one was there. I know that I cleared two of the pop-ups when I got to the spot and no one was there. If no one is there, you should always clear the pop-up. It makes it easier on everyone when the users do that.
As far as streets being on Waze and not on Google; we had a new street constructed in my neighborhood. I drove the street one day, sent it to Waze and low and behold, it showed up on the Waze maps about one week later. I just checked and it is still not on Google maps. Oh, by the way, I reported this street to Waze back in June. So, this just goes to show that even though Waze is part of Google, their maps are not the same.

Waze has a pretty good

Waze has a pretty good community that will verify missing roads, etc, and make changes to the maps. Here and Google have to verify the information. If it's not in the current map set, they will query for new sat photos, then verify the info.

It may take a while for new sat photos to reach Google and Here, so road updates and building updates take a longer time.

Nothing is perfect

As previous comment, Bluetooth On/Off without notice, issue since long time ago with Iphone X, crash all the way, some day work
some day no screen display at all, only sound via speaker.
If using Bluetooth, it's worsen. Especially I'm not on 3G, it's LTE 4G. Hope this help

In this particular case,

In this particular case, Waze's map is correct, but Google's is not.

I wonder what the algorithm is for Waze to "clear" a report. I imagine it's got to be more than just 1 user reporting not there anymore, because, for example, what's to stop the Trooper from reporting he/she is no longer there, him or herself?

I use it. There is no

I use it. There is no comparison between Garmin and Waze for traffic reporting.
