Garmin's Jill (New Voice Version 3.0)

3.0

Changes from version 2.90 to version 3.00:

Street abbreviation pronunciation improvements.

TTSVoice editor

And it does not work with TTSVoiceEditor. Yet.

It Does Work

Works for me, just be sure you are using latest version of TTS Editor, it is V2.90.
Get it here: http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/Downloads

Note; For changing recalculating, it does not work on newer units since they have done away with that message, therefore no option to change.

Edit: My apologies TTN Voice Editor DOES NOT work with Jill v3.0. I clicked on the wrong Jill file (V2.90). Hopefully Turboccc can update to make it work.

I have emailed Turboccc and made him aware of the problem.

It's possible that Jill (the American English TTS voice) is not offered on the nuvi 40.

When you tap Tools/Settings/Languages, what English language "Speaks Street Names" voice options do you have? Be sure to use the up or down arrows to scroll through all your choices. On the higher end nuvis, I think we all have a pair of British English, American English and Australian English voices--and Jill is one of our six choices. I know that on earlier models, the cheaper nuvis used a different voice engine and did not share these six choices--they may have had a Samantha if I remember correctly.

CraigW is correct

The lower end Garmin units use a different voice engine. I remember trying to put Jill from my Nuvi on a friends 265WT, it didn't work.
The English files on the higher end Nuvis range from 13 to 17MB, if I remember correctly the Samantha voice on his 265 was about 2MB (perhaps 3?). I do believe the lower end units have less internal memory thus the smaller sized VPN voice files and a different engine.

Not much difference so far

I've updated the voice but haven't heard much difference yet. What's funny in this version (and the previous one) is the difference in pronunciation during voice command search and during routing. For example, during VC search, Chipotle is called chip-o-toll, but during routing it calls it correctly as Chip-pote-lay. Same thing with Stater Bros market...Stater Broes during search, Stater Brothers during routing.

is it the same voice?

Or a totally new voice?

Interesting

Interesting. For me, with Karen, I often hear an upcoming Kachina Blvd exit pronounced CATCH in ah before the exit, but the correct cah CHEEN ah at the end of the exit as I turn to the blvd.

And with Jill (both the 2.90 and earlier and the new 3.0), She correctly pronounces "left" when saying "Turn left onto ...." but totally mispronounces it when it's "Arriving at Home, on left."

Being a relative Garmin nuvi newbie...

205 = 305

I use American-Jack right now. I noticed that when it prompts for I-205, it sounds "eye three oh five"

I just downloaded Jill 3.0 and will test it when i route that way.

The new Jill still mutters something about P3 and P9 when giving the traffic reports to me...

Jill has always said that on my Nuvi 1450, Zumo 665 using FM or XM traffic and on my previous Zumo 660. She has always said, "P9 traffic P9". On one occasion she did say,"P3 traffic P3", which caught me off guard. I never new why and have been meaning to ask but never got around to it. I do know it is not the latest version Jill causing the problem because I don't have it installed on any GPS because you can't edit the new version. Maybe someone else here will know.

Back-up copy of Jill 2.9?

I updated my Jill file to 3.0 before I backed it up to my system. Anyone have a copy of the 2.9 file that they can link to or make a Torrent file available?

I am replacing the S79 skyworks chip on my Nuvi 660 and I have a replacement battery on the way.

Thanks Malodave

Thanks for the info.

Welcome to The Factory.

The nuvi 50LM does not have a Jill voice available. More:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/37536

What English language voices do you have now? I'm guessing American Samantha or Michelle are among them. Here's some more detail:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/42708

To see what voices your nuvi can receive, you can sign into your myGarmin account and check for voices or use Garmin Express and choose to download and install all available English language voices. The program WebUpdater can often find voices as well, although for the newer nuvi models, WebUpdater won't show some voices until they've first been installed with myGarmin or Garmin Express.

All in all, if you want Jill or some other voices, you'll need to buy a different nuvi, one above the Essential Series nuvi 50. Sorry.

thanks
