Caution

Thank you for posting this, but as to the 1490, BEWARE. There are many, many posts and several threads on POI Factory about the headaches and worse with the 1490 (I should know - I own one).

If there's something similar at a comparable price, don't choose the 1490.

1490T Price Too High

Just got this in email

Unless I'm reading it wrong,
The link you provided shows it is sold out, it shows price is not 99.99, but 199.00, the 100.00 off is the usual price of 299.00, that's way to high for the 1490T.
As of today, you can get a 1490LMT unit from Amazon for 160.00 and that includes lifetime maps & free shipping. Shop around and you can probably do better than the 160.00.

Heres one for 148.40 that price expires today.

I have used Newegg for years for computer equipment, a great company to deal with but their GPS units are always overpriced.

Nuvi 2460LMT 2 Units

I own a 1490LMT

.... and would not advise anybody to by one.

The "storage" memory in the 14xx series is NOT LARGE ENOUGH to update to the latest and greatest mapset and junction views.

Buyer beware ... you will not have room for future updates and have to resort to putting stuff on an auxilliary SD card.

Now, putting maps and junction views on an SD card isn't really tough ... but hey, why would you buy something that is already crippled?

Spend a few more bucks and buy a 24XX series.

Garmin 205, 260W, 1450LMT, 2460LMT, HEREwego for iPhone ... all still mapping strong.

I was not

endorsing the 1490, simply sharing what appeared to be a good deal with fellow GPS Geeks..

As of when I posted it, they were still available.

Guess I won't do that again.

and another

Avoid the 1490

1490LMT

My son just received one as a gift as work in a drawing. How much trouble is it to put the maps and JV files on the SD card. I have several 4 and 8GB SD cards. Can you give me some details.

JG - Nuvi 2460

The unit takes a micro SD

The unit takes a micro SD card. I have a 1450LMT which is a 1490 without bluetooth and I'm very pleased with it. I have an 8gig card on order and adding a card is not that big a deal. I paid $130 at Amazon but the price is now 140 but shipping is free.

Had three...

Finally gave up after three were bad...sorry but I wouldn't take one if it was free...my personal opinion.....

1490T - just get the 2460

I had a 1490T and while I wouldn't say it sucked I would say that it's time has passed. I gave mine to my daughter and, in that situation (teenager), I think it works fine.

The 2460LMT (or even one of the newer models) will get you better performance plus you'll get real detours (not just avoid what's directly ahead of me). The 2460LMT gets you close to a StreetPilot.

I'd recommend the iPhone Garmin App (full maps, version) but it has the same stupid detour problem - you can't detour by area, miles, or some road in your path, no - you just 'detour' whatever is in front of you - it's stupid. The Garmin app isn't a bad backup for a rental car somewhere but you'll be disappointed when you see a 'road closed due to snow 20mi ahead' or something similar and try to work around. You can't. You can only detour by the road right in front of you.

It's stupid that they limit this on some models.

Detour problem

Well said. Despite all the hype about various Garmin features, they still couldn't get over this deficiency.
