New Nuvi 2460LMT - upcoming cross streets

I just upgraded from my Nuvi 760 which was showing its age. I will enjoy the lifetime maps and other new features. I downloaded the 2012.30 maps before using and I was surprised to see that it is displaying the upcoming cross streets in the top bar like my 760 did in the non-navigation mode. I thought Garmin removed this feature? Maybe its the 2012.30 maps.

Adding feature back

Cross streets showed up on my last firmware update on my zumo 660. They haven't shown for my nuvi 765T yet.

Seems like enough people liked the feature so Garmin is slowly bringing it back.

I was glad to see it. It

I was glad to see it. It was one reason I held off so long on getting a new gps. I really use that feature.

Cross Streets

The cross streets have been that way on my Nuvi 2450 for the past 3 maps updates (the length of time I've owned it.)

Me too.

Me too.

not only upcoming cross streets

Another thing I found out while running a simulation on the 2460LMT, when traveling on a Interstate Hwy you tap the little car it will open the screen:
Where am I? and not only will it shows the LAT/Long and Elev of your current location.

Nearest Address: Will display the name of towns as you move down the Hwy.

Nearest Exit: Will the display the nearest exit number and if the nearest exit happens to be a Rest Area it will display Rest Area or "State" Visitors Center.

3790 doesn't do this

A nice feature while on a route!

This is great. Didn't know of that feature. I taped on the car and the box has Where am I, Nearest Address and Nearest intersection. I guess when I am on the highway the Nearest intersection will change to nearest exit. That is a great thing to have.

Wonder what else this little gps will do that we don't know about.
Thanks!!

Another Feature

If you are in 3D or track-up driving or navigation mode, you can touch the screen anywhere except on the vehicle icon, and you will switch to a 2D north-up map. You can then touch the back arrow, and be in your main map display again. Since there are no north arrows on the current nuvis, this can sometimes be useful for finding north (if your vehicle doesn't have a compass), or looking at your surroundings in a 2D view.

My Nuvi 2450 has a North arrow that is always floating on the left side of the main screen. It is always pointing to North. Didn't know what it was for a while... grin

Same here on older units

I have this feature on the zumo 660 and nuvi 765T also, though I rarely remember to use it.

EDIT - I rarely remember to use it while driving to see the upcoming intersection but I use it regularly to save the current coordinates either for myself to remember a location or updating POIs for maintainers on this site.

I learned something from you.

Thanks mgarledge, since I always travel in 3D mode, I'd never noticed the north arrow in track up mode on my 2460.

I tried this out today. The nearest address section is pretty cool.

That's a great tip. I'm going to see if that works on the 660, 760, and the 1490t. Hope it does as that would be very useful on our travels. Thanks!

The Where AM I? feature works on my 1490 and 760. I no longer have a 660, but IIRC it didn't have this feature.

That's what I use it for quite often.

I think the 2460LMT is one

I think the 2460LMT is one of the best garmin nuvis you can buy at the moment - it has features many of the others don't despite being "higher end" aka 3790.

Old Truck with GPS

I used my 2460LTM a lot this Summer when our old car group went out for our weekly tour of the country side. The leader picks the route as we go and we can be pretty far back in the country and when you are only following you sometime loose track of where you are at. Not knowing where you are at can be a problem with an old vehicle that may break down at any time (we run out of gas a lot to). I haven't needed the info yet but the nearest intersection feature will be a life saver for us sometime when we have to call for help or one of us have to find our way back with gas or parts.

One night I knew our final destination so I punch it in before we started. I think we only turned the direction that Veronica (my gps) wanted me to go once and that was when we were nearly at the destination. I thought she was going to start yelling at me smile

Jim...

It was a great feature and I

It was a great feature and I was glad to see it back on my 780 and 1490 after a brief absence.
