BMW / Garmin POI load not working?

Hi guys, I have the latest BMW Garmin aftermarket Nav unit in my wife's car, and it's been fantastic. I appreciate how it integrates into the factory system and quiets the stereo, etc. for instructions.

I loaded the Starbucks POI set for her using the POI loader from Garmin, and everything loaded as I'd expect. I see the folder by name for the POIs and even included one of the voice files. For whatever reason it doesn't alert to any Starbucks as I would expect, or at all. Is there something I'm missing? It's not the end of the world, but I'd really to get this working!

Thanks!

Could be any of several issues

This is a pretty good thread talking about various issues with getting alerts to work. The first page did not comment on the POI file. It also needs to have extra fields, if I remember right. That might be mentioned on other pages or may already be handled in the starbucks file, I'll look at it. You also have to have the alert named right and in the same directory as the POI file when you run POI loader.

If you just bought it, you should have a nuvi 3760. I am adding this mainly for other people who may be unfamilar with the BMW Portable Pro system.

Did you use the manual mode

Did you use the manual mode and set an alert distance?
Is the alert voice name the same as the file name?
Being that it is a newer nuvi, I suspect it requires the wav file which would also require the sox.exe to be in the proper folder.

Look at this link..http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730

Nuvi 2460LMT.

I successfully created

I successfully created alerts for the first time using the step by step directions from this website:

http://home.comcast.net/~ghayman3/garmin.gps/pagepoi.02.htm

It is written more conversationally and at times more simply than the responses I get here and on GPS Passion. I very much appreciate the responses on these websites but often they are a bit over my head and a little difficult to understand. Gary's website starts out a bit more basic and walks you through it.

I hope we can do better

Jim,
your point is a good one. Too often, we make the assumption that everyone else is at the same level of knowledge that we are and, so, our instructions are a bit sparse. While it may take another few minutes to expand an answer (like Gary H. does), it will be a help to not only the person who posted the question, but to those who want to know the answer and are just following the thread to learn something new.

Glad you got the alerts working.

Since you were successful, you might even want to try your hand at writing a FAQ. You would likely approach it a bit differently than Gary did, such as including some extra steps. Nothing wrong with doing such and giving Gary credit (even linking to his site like you did above).
