2350lmt (questions about the 2xxx series)

Have recently purchased my first gps a nuvi 1350lmt. Well... soon after that, I realized how many different models & features there are out there and much fun gps'ing is! I have been doing a lot of reading on this site. ( and have much appreciated the insight & experience of the contributions here! )
So, sadly I have returned the 1350lmt for a 1450lmt because I really wanted the route feature and thought that the bigger screen would be better. Oops. Now that I have the 1450, I actually don't like its size and/or weight. I think that the 4.3 screen is actually perfect (for me). Too bad the 1350 doesn't support routes or trip planning.
So, now I started looking at the 2350lmt. It seems like the right size with the right feature set (routes, 4gb internal drive, map updates, traffic, etc) with a middle of the road price.
Finally the "real" question(s):
- on the Garmin web site... the 2xxx series of nuvi's are not listed in the automotive pages (ie: home>>on the road>>automotive). From what I've read the 2350 released in 2010, 1350/1450 in 2009. So why isn't it listed there?
- searching (using google) for the 2350 leads me to a page on the garmin site with the 2350 product description, but its hidden under: home>>on the road>>automotive>>previous models. What's up with that?
- is the the 2350lmt end-of-life already? What's its current status?
- also been yaking with local futureshop sales dude, and they have 6 of this model available online, none in stores, and are phasing out this model. hmmmm....
Is this model a lame duck?
Its reviews here & on the web are quite good, but I'm a little nervous because of the garmin website thing & futureshop's decsion to drop this model.
What do you guys think, should I stay away from it?
Is there a better middle road 4.3 gps with routes?
First off
Welcome to the site.

The current line isn't dead yet, but it is on it's last legs. Don't let that scare you, the units have a lot of users and life left in them. Garmin is in the process of revamping their entire line of personal navigation devices (yet again) so the current models are migrating to the discontinued status.
The majority of users on this site have units with 3 digit model numbers and those are still supported by Garmin. In fact, they just released a couple of software updates for some of these units.
The newest series of units have 3 classes, basic, advanced and premium. Your 2350 is in the advanced or middle category. So don't despair, your unit has a long life ahead of it.

didn't pull the trigger yet
Thanks for the feedback.
Just to clarify... I still have the 1450lmt, but am seriously considering exchanging it for the 2350lmt.
Does that change your response at all?
Would you still recommend the 2350 as a new purchase?
And curious then if you have thoughts on how long the "lifetime" map updates would be provided for the current line of units including the 2350?
( And if I'm understanding your reply correctly, Garmin still supports & updates maps for the 3 digit older units as well? Could you give me some idea old those units are? thx)
The oldest
The oldest Nuvi's are the 3xx models. I bought my 350 in December 2005. Long discontinued but I can still use it and update the maps as required.
Lifetime maps are for the life of the GPS or as long as Garmin buys their maps from Navteq. Since really the only other map supplier is TeleAtlas and they are owned by TomTom, Garmin's biggest competitor, I'd suggest that your Nuvi will give up the ghost before the lifetime maps run out. You may have a problem putting maps on the Nuvi as the internal storage may not be enough to hold the map file as they get bigger. This isn't really a problem as all Nuvi's come with and SD slot so maps can be placed on an SD card instead of the device.
The 2350 is now on the Previous Model list which is the "no mans land" between the newly announced Current models and the now Discontinued line. As it's been said, really doesn't matter where the unit sits in the progression of things as Garmin continue to support all their models.
IMO, I'm not sure I'd upgrade from a 1450 to a 2350. Doesn't seem to be any major advantage to doing that if you compare the 2 units:

In any event I'd wait to see what the price looks like in October once the new models are actually available. That usually brings the price of current models down.
Nuvi 350, 760, 1695LM, 3790LMT, 2460LMT, 3597LMTHD, DriveLuxe 50LMTHD, DriveSmart 61, Garmin Drive 52, Garmin Backup Camera 40 and TomTom XXL540s.
Worth the wait?
Well... that seems like good advice, and as it turns out, futureshop has the unit (2350lmt) on sale ($30 off) this week. So I did order one. Should have it in a day or 2. For me it was worth the upgrade for: size, weight, and 4.3 screen size.
oh...btw... the garmin site has recently been updated adding the 2012 models and so the earlier confusion regarding the "previous model" link has been cleared up as well.

I returned my 1350LMT due to technical problems, I upgraded to the 2350LMT and like the features it has and the map display/graphics is much better to look at than the 1350LMT.
Is it any slower?
So what about route calculation & on the fly-re-calculation? Do you notice any difference between the 1350 & 2350? I am curious if the "my-trends" feature slows the 2350 down much compared to models without it.
And... I probably would have kept my 1350lmt. I really liked its size, weight, screen size, extra battery life. But I wanted a model that supported route / trip planning so that's why I traded up.

Route calculations on the 2350LMT are much slower than the 1350LMT. I had to return the 1350LMT, I went through 2 1350LMT's in a month with all sorts of problems and spending many hours troubleshooting and working with Garmin tech. support.
2350lmt arrived
Well, I finally have my 2350. So far I am impressed. It has the features I was interested in: route planning, 4.3 screen size, mid-range price.
I have noticed that keyboarding on this model is much better, ie: easier to use and more accurate touch screen. I also like the way the characters temporarily popup above your finger after you pressed them so you get a nice visual confirmation as well as the "key-click" beep. Keyboarding on the 1350 was frustrating at times.
The UI is also more consistant than on the other models I've tried (1350, 1450), in that the standard menu, up, down and back control bar is present on most screens.
So far I like this one the best & would recommend.
Note: the internal flash drive is also bigger (4GB) than the 1350 & 1450 (2GB) so no problems with the latest full 2012.20 map update.
2350 import routes?
Is it possible to import routes from mapsource or mapquest to this device?
I've played with this a bit today. I built a route in mapquest, sent it to the device, but I cannot find it anywhere after disconnecting from the computer and power it up. Also tried the same thing with mapsource.
I assumed since this device supports routes (or trip planning), that its possible to upload a route. Is this not true?
Or is there a different way to go about this?

Just a reminder, the junction view file for the 2350 can be replaced with a larger JCV file, the 2350 has split screen junction view, downloading the incorrect junction view file will remove the split screen feature, let me know if you need assistance on which file to install or search the forums for my user name and I have posted many comments on the JCV file for the 2350.
junction view file and route uploading
Thanks for the tip on the junction view file... I'll have a look for your posts.
What about route/trip uploading?
I've read that this works with the 1450 (which I've returned already)... so don't tell me this doesn't work on the 2350??? How can this be?

After the above discussion, if anyone is interested: Buydig.com has the popular Garmin nuvi 2350LMT 4.3" Portable GPS Navigation for $157.00 Free Shipping after $10 off Coupon Code: BUYDIGCLUB10. I have no idea if this is a good deal as I have not priced GPSs in years.
