1. Purchase a MicroSD card. You should be able to get a 4GB card for about $10, which should last you for quite a long while.
2. NEVER choose to install updates to the nüvi through the map update programs. Always install solely to your computer, and then run MapInstall to transfer the maps. This is because you will eventually have to split your map between the internal memory and MicroSD card, which means running MapInstall twice.
3. If you don't want to split your maps between the internal memory and MicroSD card, after downloading the map to your computer, run MapInstall and select your home state/province to be installed to the internal memory. Then install the entire map to the MicroSD card. When the next update happens, just update the MicroSD card and leave the map on the internal memory alone.
4. Always ensure you leave sufficient room, perhaps 20MB, to allow the nüvi to update the firmware. Insufficient interal storage will prevent firmware updates from happening.
5. Be aware that the current version of the firmware, version 5.40, has a "feature" wherein all your favorites will show a black dot at the favorite's location instead of the icon you select for the favorite. This is not a feature, but a bug.

I have 1 1/2yr old 1350LMT. Currently I download/store 5mb of jpgs and 10.8mb of gpx/csv/wav/bmp files and my PC say the Garmin has 1.58gb used and 1.76mb free.
I only have 15 voices/languages installed but I didn't delete other files. I have a 2gb microSD card but so far I only store additional jpgs on it.
I like the 1350LMT, especially after finally figuring out how to run TourGuides. It is certainly miles ahead of my '11 Ford Edge navigation package. I have even used it to geocache although it does not feature usable geocache screens/views - I just use the current lat/long position

I don't know but be very cautious of buying a SD card from Hong Kong, Chinese or nearby vendors due to the number of counterfeits or defective cards being sold. A 4GB micro SD is cheap enough that I'll suggest you go to Amazon or even Wal-Mart or Radio Shack. The standard Class 2 and 4 Sandisk cards are quite reliable. In fact, if buying from Amazon, I'd also make sure I'm buying from Amazon itself and not one of the Amazon Sellers.
As pointed out in the 2nd link above, this scam works well because it will cost you more to return the card (with proof of delivery) than the card cost you--and eBay's Buyer Protection requires proof of return.
I am a long-time eBayer but SD cards are one of the few items I'll buy elsewhere.

Limited memory
This model has limited internal memory which will cause difficulties during map updates if you want a GPS with all of North America. See:
