Follow the usual update methods
As an FYI, my 9th gen iPad first did an update to 26.7 which addressed security issues and then offered me 27.0. 27.0 seems to use AI quite a bit so I think I’ll hold off and await comments.
The content at https://www.cnet.com/tech/services-and-software/ive-been-usi... Is for the iPhone but some of the comments may apply to the iPad as well.
Updated to IOS 27
On both my iPhone 17 and my wife’s iPhone SE 2nd generation. No problems updating although my Favorites in Safari went kind of wonky. They were inverted and took me awhile to get them in the previous order. The calendar also showed a part of the previous month as well as the current month and the first two weeks of the following month. Never saw that before. All in all, not a bad update. It took about 30-35 minutes for the 17 and 35-40 minutes for the SE 2nd gen. Overall, it seems to be faster.

Calendar flaky as well

Since you mentioned the calendar issue I went in and checked mine and it to was flaky.

Gonna give it a try
I heard even with old devices that iOS 27 is supposed to make them run faster so I give it a try on my iPhone 13 Pro.
Early reports on battery life
Early reports of iPhone users are reporting that battery life may be suffering. At least with respect to my 9th gen iPad, my battery life today was about 2X what it was yesterday prior to the update. Word on the street it to give the device 36 to 48 hours as the Apple operating system does some cleanup in the background and that may be the cause of the decreased battery life.

iPhone update
Yes, battery life is a common problem with iPhone OS major version updates. The major version updates also typically take a long time to install, and then you usually have to update again soon after. I will wait as well, probably for 27.1 if I can.

our
son has a newer phone than we do. It was totally free other than a monthly surcharge on the $30/mo line.
16 Pro. Upgraded it and suddenly 13 gb of space was eaten up coming from 26.7.
On my 13 Pro (not free cost me $349 but no trade), I have to delete apps to get it down to 238 gb used out of 264 gb, in order to download 27. Otherwise it will say unable to download.
Other than have someone say what happened, being in the same boat (running out of space, say 12 gb free on 26.7), I'm curious, if I did upgrade to 27, would 13 gb of space be consumed like on my son's, because I can't spare it. With everything in place, it's at 244 gb used of 256 gb. Again, this is not enough to allow the 27 download. But I would not want to upgrade to 27 and now have zero free space, that's not wise.
Don't see any benefit to 27 either, when holding his phone and poking around.
Wish we could cut the cord with Apple. No different than a school system saying your kid needs a TI83, 1996 technology for double the other brands. Captive markets are no bueno imho
thanks

I look at apps as being the marketing geniuses at work ultimately making people upgrade their hardware due to space considerations. I rarely use apps and lean to the use of a simple shortcut that can take me tp the desired content. Sure I can use apps like ACME, GIANT or CVS but each use about 1/2 a GB. I don’t know what a shortcut in an Apple OS uses but at the moment I’ve used about 32GB out of 256GB. People also need to clean out images and quit generating new ones. I helped a friend a few weeks ago clear out about 10GB of videos and images. Many of the images were what the heck they were eating in some restaurant several years ago. What the heck is the purpose?

I have over 200 gb of video and pics--I actually enjoy when things pop up and say this date 2021, 2023, etc etc.
This is what I consider the "Vanguard" effect. I once was like that when I was single--pinched every penny and maxed out the 401k to the IRS limit every year since 1999 (you can imagine based on market performance). I would ask, why would anyone not?
My dad corrected me. There are folks who have families, who desire vacations, fancy cars, boats, they have a large home, leveraged, they may even live beyond their means but they feel it's life, etc. He said people have lots of reasons for not maxing out their 401k.
So I see the phone as the same. From a utilitarian perspective, how did I have only 64 gb in 2018 all the way through 2023, and not have any issues, yet today, I'm almost out on 256 gb. Different habits. Tons of ice hockey pics of son, from when he couldn't even skate, to when he stepped on the ice in gear for the first time, to the first backwards crossover, what for? Do I even watch them daily, weekly, monthly, yearly? So why not just delete them all, they're backed up to amazon photos. Good question, we're all different is what I'm saying. I'd like to say that's ok. If I did delete all pics and vids, it would free up 203 gb. And I could go to 27 and let it eat 13 gb more than 26.7, but not kidding I still question, why.
