replace old unit

smile My Nuvi 660 is over 4 years old and has served me very well, but it is getting sick. It's time to replace the battery, and it stalls at times. Can anyone suggest an equal replacement GPS? There are so many units out there with many different options, it's hard to know what's good.

Use Garmin's gps finder

Click the options you want and it lets you know what they have to offer

Yes, that's the place to start for sure. But there are three more things a potential buyer should research that aren't specified on Garmin's comparison site.

First, is the total capacity of the nuvi (critical to determine whether added hoops will be needed to jump through when future map updates are made and for #3, below):

Second, does the nuvi use a powered mount or will a cable have to be plugged/unplugged each time the nuvi is placed/taken from the dashboard (likely to be occur every time you park in public or during hot summer days):

Third, for nuvi models that offer Lane Assist and Junction View, starting with the current map update CNNANT 2012.20, the number of highway interchanges being offered Junction Views may be large and very useful to many folks or so tiny that's it's essentially only a sale gimmick used by Garmin--shame on you, Garmin, buy the way. To date, I believe there are three sizes of the Junction View file and there hasn't been a thread created yet to my knowledge that offers this information on nuvi model and JV file size. Consequently, for the time being, once you have decided on buying one of a small set of new nuvis, you may need to post a new message here asking users of those models what size the Junction View file (.jcv file) is being offered. I live in northern Arizona and have a nuvi 855 that offers Junction View. The latest map update has to my knowledge eliminated every junction view I'm likely to experience in the state except possibly for my occasional trips to Phoenix or Tucson. In general, it's seeming that the newer, most expensive nuvi models offer a large useful selection of Junction View images. Older nuvis or budget nuvis that state they offer Junction Views are much more likely to have an extremely limited selection; i.e., a sale gimmick that you'd be wise to ignore.

I like the Garmin Nuvi 1350LMT

I got the 1350LMT for my birthday and I am very happy with it. It's not top of the line nor does it have bluetooth or Junction View. But, it does get the job done. I updated my maps to the 2012.20 version and I didn't encounter any issues.

I love the built-in POIs for shopping, attractions, and restaurants. It saves you a lot of time if you want to go somewhere on the fly and you don't have the address. The audio is fairly good and it's loud enough. However, the spoken street names are not crystal clear but it's good enough. Overall, on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best, I would rate it a 4 because of the audio. Just my opinion. smile
