JVC
I like this theory because a simple error (Garmin offering a single jcv file for everyone for a few days at the beginning of the 2012.10 update offering) explains why Garmin isn't responding and won't respond to our efforts to obtain bigger (and in Garmin's view, undeserved) jcv files (both for the 2012.20 updaters and those 2012.10 updaters who had to reinstall the map only to find a smaller JCV file). The theory is also nice since it was an error made by Garmin a few months ago that's caused the ruckus now--and we users can easily accept an explanation based upon Garmin making a mistake
It also explains why we're seeing so much anger here at the POI Factory which may not be representative of the nation-wide group of JV-able lifetime numaps subscribers--here at the Factory, we have a much greater percentage of updaters who updated to 2012.10 on Day 1 and therefore have had the wonderfully large JV file to use for the past three months.
Although I have reason to believe my theory is correct, it's not the theory that I wish were true.
I tried to update my 1490LMT to 2012.10 when it was first released. The install went to 70% then an unexpected error has occurred message appeared. The unit showed it is on version 2012.10. But junction view did not work.
I found that when my initial 2012.10 install failed on my 1490LMT, I ran out of space and lost my junction view file (even though I had removed the extra voice, text, etc. files). When I checked my JCV folder, I only had a .sum file. I reinstalled the 2012.10 update after I read they reduced the .JVC size and now have both the .sum and the 47 KB .JCV files. By Garmin removing the larger .JCV file from the initial release and replacing it with the smaller file seems to have fixed the failed install and I'm guessing that's why they re-released it.
I would really like the option of being able to download the full jvc file from Garmin so I could throw it on my microSD card.

2012.2
The JVC file dtd 12-22-10 might be an old file that the update Map did not delete. Before this update map there were just a few places that had JV. That would explain why the size is small. With the new update the JV are everywhere. There is JV where there weren't any before. That would explain the different size.
So, I guess it would be alright to keep the small file until Garmin releases another update.

Good Enough for Me
I'd like it as well.
Anyone who gets this file, please report back if it works for you.
Thanks!
I have the 1490. The view fills the screen, but is somewhat out of focus. The sign/signs are good enough to read. I'll stick with this until something better is available.
Thanks
Cartoon vs Photo JVs
Ok, here are some screenshots since I guess I am not being clear on my description of 'old' cartoon JVs and the newer photographic JVs:

Half screen
I didn't realize that the 3760 had half screen JVs too. The file worked with no problem but displayed like your 855 on my wife's 765T. She looked at it and said, "No Way!"
I also confirmed that the GarminDevice.xml file just updates itself on bootup with what ever file you place in the JCV folder.
Thanks anyway, but she made me put her full screen file back.

If both views had the same number of actual junction views, I'd agree with her. But to say I'd rather have a severely limited number of junction views that display over the whole screen or no junction view at all, versus significantly increasing the number of junction views that use 2/3s of the screen? That makes no sense to me why someone would prefer to have them full screen or not at all.
But to each their own...
No problem for me either.
No problem for me either. Just delete all unnecessary files.

A simple fix for all this
I don't get why Garmin won't make their older models support the split screen junction views. All it would take is a simple firmware update. I know that the 7X5 series, the 855t, and the 14XX series have capable processors that could handle it. If these models could support the split screen junction views, then the file size wouldn't have to be so large. But the chances of Garmin actually taking their time to do this to give their customers what they deserve are slim to none. I wish it didn't have to be that way.

Are you sure you placed it
Are you sure you placed it in the right place? The JCV file needs to be in X:\Garmin\JCV for the file to work.
For the record, the fuzziness that WAASUP is seeing is because his unit is taking a portrait image from the 37xx and stretching it out. Which leads me to ask if someone has run a test on the 150MB file to see if it has as many junction views as the 37xx JCV file?

I didn't recall needing it to be in the JCV folder. It does work.
I am using the 1490 as WAASUP is, works good enough for me. The most number of views I got with the large file with 2012.1 was 18 between DFW and Bangor, ME. With the 150MB file I get 43. Can't say what the 37xx gets.
JCV File Test
I ran a test between the 446MB file and the 51MB version. The route was an intersection in Fall River near I-195 and a friend's house in Moncton,NB. I received fifteen junction views with the large file, and zero with the small file.
The major interstates on the route are I-95 and TCH 2 NB, with a small portion of I-93 near Boston thrown in for good measure. Zero views on I-95 simply isn't good, and thus the small file is useless. The 150MB file will be much better than the 51MB file, but I doubt it will be better than the full file for the 37xx series.
Of course, I could easily be wrong.

Love the 3790LMT. If you are on a route on an interstate hwy, it will show what exit you need to take in JV. I guess that is why the file is so big. It showed me three exist that the gps wanted me to take all in JV.

I'm starting to think the only difference between the 150MB JCV and the 500MB JCV are the resolution of the images. So unless you have a 37xx GPS which has the high resolution screen, you would see no difference in image quality on the rest of Garmins line of GPSs that have a lower screen resolution. We'll just have to wait for someone to test the files side by side to see if one has more JCV's then the other. My bet is, it doesn't and getting the large file would only take up more space with no other advantage unless you have the higher-resolution screen that 37xx owners have.

A few updates back, release of the map update for some (maybe all) of the 800 series nuvis was delayed by several weeks from the other models. See: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/28761. So for whatever reason, updates may or may not be released for all models at the same time.

Everyone
@rthibodaux
Everyone with a 3790 (and other newer models) with the latest firmware have "split screen junction views". It was added to the 3790 with firmware version 4.10.
I think it's a good addition as it allows you see the view while still letting you see the map screen. Without 'split screen views" you lost the map screen whenever a JV was displayed.
The split screens also appear better, IMHO, in portrait mode. In landscape they make both the view and the map a little to small for easy viewing for my old eyes.

That's the same way my 855t and 3760 work... It even showed me the local exit I take to go to my house. Technically, that's not a junction. It doesn't have every exit, but its impressive that it has as many as I have experienced in the Phoenix area alone. Going on a road trip tomorrow so this update couldn't have had better timing for me!

Intersection of Rt. 81 and Rodman Street, Fall River, MA (Coordinates, -71.152273, 41.695415) to High Street, Moncton, NB (-64.793329, 46.095168)
51MB file - 0 Junction Views
152MB file - 11 Junction Views
446MB file - 15 Junction Views
The 152MB file is an acceptable alternative to the 446MB file. It has far more Junction Views than the 51MB file, but still has less views than the 446MB file. Image distortion was not eliminated on my GPSr with this file, and thus images were not any sharper than the 446MB file. I cannot test whether the resolution of the images in the JCV file have changed, but I think that to be unlikely. What is more likely is that the 446MB file has two versions of the same image: portrait and landscape. The portrait images were most likely deleted, which would cut the file size by about half, and then some minor junctions were removed.

I have already installed the newest 2012.20 update which Garmin omitted many of the JCV files, since, legally Garmin can not use them since they took over those files from Navteq and are creating them themselves. I was wondering if I could copy the JVC files from the previous update and put them in this newest update?
This might be an option for 765 owners
Some folks on gpspassion have found a way to use Taiwan firmware on their 7X5 Nuvis, and it may help fix the 'picture frame' image on a 7X5 when using the largest JCV file...
Take a look 1/2 way down the first page http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=125178
There's 32 pages there, I have some reading to do before I decide to attempt it.

Reduced JCV files 7x5 - Garmin's response
Here's the written response I received from Garmin regarding the drastically reduced JCV content in the Toronto area. (the 51MB file....)
"Garmin City Navigator mapping data has begun using a combination of sources for Junction View (JCV) information in an effort to bring the richest mapping content available. You may notice that locations which previously had JCV information no longer have this information, and likewise areas that didn't have JCV in the past are now included. This is because the sources we use to collect this information along with the criteria that we use to select the included intersections are gradually changing and we are always evaluating the best locations for this information."
Double talk?
I'll say
I'll say it is, or another example of Garmin Support Staff making things up as they go along, especially when your talking about the Toronto area.
If you had the larger JV file that's available on the 3790 for example, nearly every exit on the major expressways (401, QEW, Gardiner, etc.) have available Junction Views.
If they have them on that model but not on the 7x5 it has NOTHING to do with "an effort to bring the richest mapping content available" or "the sources we use to collect this information along with the criteria that we use to select the included intersections are gradually changing and we are always evaluating the best locations for this information" and EVERYTHING to do with them knowingly decreasing the number of views even though those views are available.

It's interesting that there's no mention in Garmin's statement of their offering three or so different versions of JV depending upon the nuvi model being used. So their criteria for selecting intersections is different for different nuvi models? If Garmin feels the new 3xxx series nuvis deserve more JVs than us old 8x5 owners, why not say it? If Garmin feels a 3xxx owner is aided by a JV at a specific interchange--and if I have over 900MB of free space on my 855 with the new map, why do they feel I deserve less help at that interchange, especially since their product specs and comparison charts do not indicate that they offer a model-dependent number of JVs with the 2012.20 map, which would lead any potential buyer to think all models with JV will offer the same feature?
Just as there's been a developing thread here discussing 'hard drive' space on the various nuvi models to aid potential buyers in buying the right nuvi, there needs to be a thread here stating which nuvi have the tiny (and in northern AZ, useless) JV file, those with the mid-size file and those with the full-featured file. I've already read that folks have simulated various routes using the three JV files and find a different number of JVs shown between the three offered files.

This is just copied and pasted from their website. You can go to the garmin site and search Junction View and find the same paragraph.
This paragraph in NO way explains why the users with the 37xx series units have many more JVs than the users that have the older 480 x 272 screen units. I haven't seen anyone with one of these units have anything but the 49.8 MB file.
We are paying for the same service but are being slighted. The zumo 660 is a lot more expensive than the 37xx units and it is still a current product, so why slight me. It makes me rethink buying the zumo 665.
We are not dumb users so why can't Garmin provide us with an intelligent answer and put an end to all of these horrible threads!

Can't Be Done
I was wondering if I could copy the JVC files from the previous update and put them in this newest update?
JCV files are tied to the maps, so you cannot mix and match.
