Older JCV is OK

JCV files are tied to the maps, so you cannot mix and match.

I don't think the Junction View is tied to any particular map... I used an older JCV on my 765T for a while with the 2010.10 release.

The 3D buildings may be tied to a particular map, I'm not sure.

2012.20 Maps Installed On Nuvi 660

As I've done in the past, here are the free space stats on my 660 before and after the map updates.

The new maps will overwrite the previous one. HOWEVER - each map release is bigger than the last which means the free space gets smaller and smaller. Here are the free space numbers:

New, with 2008 maps - 540MB
After 2010.10 update - 428MB
After 2010.20 update - 394MB
After 2010.30 update - 379MB
After 2010.40 update - 365MB
After 2011.10 update - 270MB
After 2011.20 update - 252MB
After 2011.30 update - 217MB
After 2011.40 update - 176MB
After 2012.10 update - 128MB
Deleted unnecessary files - 391MB
After 2012.20 update - 255MB

With only 128MB of free space after the 2012.10 update, I decided to remove the unnecessary files as discussed in various topics on the forum before. First, I made a current backup on the 660 on my PC - just in case. I then deleted the Audible, Vehicle, Voice & Help files I didn't need (mostly language files other than English).

That got me up to 391MB of free space before installing the 2012.20 update. I was able to install all of North America.

Junction View File 2012.20

Loss all my previous JV's. Sent Garmin email demading it's return. Got a reply today basically stating that by my losing JV's I had with 2012.1 that I am getting a better product???

Apparently Garmin doesn't feel it has done anything wrong? Completely the opposite. Oh! well not in a market for new GPS, when that time comes will probably go with anothe brand?

I have the previous update

I have the previous update version on my mapsource but where do I locate the JCV files in that version so that I may copy them to the current version?

No jcv from Mapsource

Mapsource will let you install maps and built-in POIs from computer to GPS but Junction View (and I think 3D building view) features aren't part of the map used by Mapsource and therefore can't be copied since they don't exist.

JCV files are installed when doing a map update from Garmin straight to the GPS--they can also be installed if you find a compatible JCV file, using your computer. Note that JCV files from one map version will not work with a different map version.

Instead of using Mapsource, if you have a complete nuvi backup on your computer from the previous map, you may be able to restore the old map with the larger JCV size by copying the backup to your nuvi. Although I always make backups of my nuvi, I've never tried this method to restore the nuvi to a previous map and can imagine that serious bricking issues should be considered before doing this. Even if successful, remember that this will bring you back to the older 2012.10 map.

JCV

I am away on vacation in Mississauga, ON and I updated my maps to 2012.20 up here (traveled up from Long Island on 2012.10). I appear to have a complete JCV as I did some simulated travels and I get the lane assist pictures. I am using a Nuvi 765T and still have ample free space. However, I do note that the map is now 1.6GB in size and still has an error in my neighborhood that was introduced in 2011.40. I have not noticed any expansion of the Canadian speed limit display. Still no display on the Gardner or the QEW from 403 to Gardner. I'll see if it is still present later this week when I drive back home again (10 1/2 hours - ugh).

I hope you're right but expect that you're counting your chickens before they hatch. You may just be in one of the sweet spots where your possibly much smaller new JV file is offering assistance.

Lane assist arrows do thankfully remain for us but JV images have been gutted from many of our units.

Thank you Craig, for your very helpful info.

What is your JCV file size? 49.8 MB?

Updated my 1490LMT

Updated my 1490LMT:

2012.10 D3153020A.JCV 45.0 MB (47,194,777 bytes)

2012.20 D3178010A.JCV 49.8 MB (52,239,657 bytes)

After updating to 2012.20, I ran a simulated drive traveling on I-95 South from north of Philadelphia to Wilmington, Delaware. Only 2 Junction views showed and they were on entering Delaware nothing for Philadelphia area. I know the Philadelphia area had junction views in 2012.10

Received the 150mb JCV file from Carey934, ran the same route and had 6 Junction views. Thanks to Carey934.

Garmin stated the you had a better product. They must have added something that we arn't seeing yet...Maybe that's why they made the jv smaller???

I personally don't like the Jv as much as the lane assist and the arrows, but this is just me. (I haven't been on a long trip since I bought my new gps with jv so maybe when I do I will like the jv better)

Isn't that just like a woman, changing her mind before she even post. grin

It looks like I finally got somewhere!

Not only did I receive this email, but I received a phone call directly from the one of the VP's himself. As they say, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I was told this will only work for the 7x5 series though, but if you guys want, you could try it on another unit.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

We do apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. To download a larger Junction View file for your device, please visit the page linked below and follow the steps in this email.

http://download.garmin.com/support/2012_20/NA/JV/D3060030A.j...

Connect your device to your computer using the supplied USB cable
Double-click the nuvi drive that appears in My Computer or on your Mac Desktop
Double-click the Garmin folder
Double-click the JCV folder
Save the D3060030A.JCV file from the above link file to this location on the nuvi
Delete any other JCV files in this location

Once you have completed this process your device will contain the complete Junction View database.

Please note that this file will only work on the nuvi 705 series and the zumo 660/665 models, so please do not attempt to install it to any other device.

Thank you for your patience during this time. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please let us know. Thank you.

With best regards,

Kinda Works on Nuvi 3760

I downloaded the file and copied it to my Nuvi 3760. It took about 8 minutes to download to the computer and another 8 mins. to copy it to the unit.

The JCVs are full screen, not half screen. On a test run, a JCV would appear about 0.8 miles from an exit and only remain for about 0.1 miles. They worked in both portrait and landscape modes. LA is not visible for the few seconds the JCVs are on screen in either portrait or landscape.

There are definitely more JCVs in this 752MB file than are in the 152MB that came with the last update, but I'm sure some of the bulk of the file results from the full screen vs. half screen JCVs.

rame1012, we all certainly owe you something for your effort and for posting it on the factory for all to see.

As others are already reporting, this file works perfectly on GPS units other than the 705 series and zumo 660/665.

After removing unneeded help and voice files from my nuvi 855, leaving 984MB of free space, I deleted my 51MB crippled JCV file from the 2012.20 map update and substituted the humongous 752MB file made available from Garmin today.

A simulated route with multiple past JVs that were lost after the 2012.20 update are back, are clear, sharp and undistorted and work perfectly!

Hey folks, there may be a time when I'll need to move the large JCV file to a SD card. Can anyone confirm if JCV files work from SD cards on the 8x5 series and if so, do I put them in the SD card's \Garmin\JCV\ directory? Thanks.

And once again, a major thanks to rame1012 for accomplishing something I thought to be impossible.

Great!

It's here, little slow getting to it...

I can confirm that the JCV file works on the card if put in GARMIN/JCV. It should work on your 855, but I don't have an 855 to test this.

It works on my 885.

I put it in a Garmin folder on my Micro-Sd card and I have not had any problems wiht the JCV view displaying. I DID delete the old JCV file out of the Garmin folder on the unit, but I don't know if I really had to do that or not.

Primary Map

Would it work if I put the primary map and its associated files in a class 4 SD card?

Thanks.

What about the 3d file?

Can we move the 3D file for the 7x5 nuvi to the Garmin folder on the SD card also?
