It dose not show up on the new map update program

It doesn't state it's the 2012.2 version. As otthers have stated in another thread the DVD is the 2012.1 release.

Click on the Coverage Details tab and then the map and you will see 2012.20 identified.

2012.2

when you look at coverage details it is listed as 2012.2. there is a road correction in my area that was nt there before

well then

For 2012.10, the viewer was available a few hours before the actual map update. So most likely later on today.

No it means exactly what it implies. The disk does not match what is displayed in the preview.

Speed Limit Info

I keep hoping they'll add more speed limit info. There are places I have to drive for work sometimes that don't list the speed limit. A couple of them are highways that get a lot of CHP business since the limit is far lower than one would expect.

It says that it MAY not match. That does not imply that it DOES NOT match.

It leaves the matching thing up for grabs.

And that situation meets the definition of ambiguous:

am·big·u·ous/amˈbigyo͞oəs/Adjective
1. (of language) Open to more than one interpretation; having a double meaning.
2. Unclear or inexact because a choice between alternatives has not been made.

Not available for download yet

I just checked and it is not available for download yet. My garminfone has lifetime map update.

This is odd

Normally, after the viewer is released, the update is available for download by this time of the day. I guess they pushed it off till tomorrow.

JCV

I wonder what the jcv size on this update will be for the 8 gig nuvi's.

Great question

Juggernaut wrote:

A great question.

Once the map's out, I'll update my non-jcved 750 ASAP but will hold off on updating my jcved 855 until I hear what's happening with the jcv file size and read some reports of what's being seen by users with the new update. Even though I have a lifetime update on the 855, I may skip the next map update(s) until I know my northern AZ JCVs are still there because I'd rather keep the large JCV at the expense of a few road and POI updates.

Automated Garmin Lifetime Updater

This may be the good time to test out this new piece from Garmin.

Has anyone seen anything happening on this yet?

It would be interesting to see whether this software starts to receive new map first or we can get it from MyGarmin web site first.

.

I have a feeling Garmin introduced this SW to cut the load of their servers, and spread the update news while maintaining a good DL speed.

Despite the fact it may be posted on the web in many places, I wonder how long after the notification here people will get it via the SW...

Time will tell.

The

The Updater program is showing that you can reinstall the previous update, not that there is an update available. That's if all you have are City Navigator North America maps.

If you have City Navigator Europe 2012.20 is available and ready for download and installation.

Speed Limit Enhancement

Adding more speed limit data is becoming more urgent as authorities look for more ways to make up for lost taxes, etc. On some roads the limits cahge and the posted signs are not always visible when trucks are in the way.

map update

wayne1939 wrote:

I would say that they fact that the update is still not available for download shows that there might be some kind of problem, maybe not with the updater program, but with the map update itself. Maybe they found some errors in their last minute testing. But I'll tell you one thing. With this new map updater program, the garmin tech support now knows even less about when map updates are going to be released. The representative I spoke with said that with the new updater program, the employees are no longer told a couple of days beforehand when the map update is going to be released (like that was much of a warning anyway). The representative did not even know that the 2012.20 Europe maps had been released. So honestly, us customers know the most about map updates. I guess I should expect this from Garmin.

Sounds

Sounds like you got a "newbie" on the phone. If he/she didn't know that 2012.20 Europe had been released last week, I'd have to question whether that person knew what they were talking about when they said that "with the new updater program, the employees are no longer told a couple of days beforehand when the map update is going to be released".

Sounds more like the support person wasn't reading their Corporate e-mail on a regular basis. sad

Also from myGarmin

t923347 wrote:

It's also available now from myGarmin. Note that for folks who wish not to install the new continuous Updater program, that you will want to select Option 2 (not the recommended Option 1) to obtain the map update.

As in the past, if you want the new map on your GPS and Computer (to be used with Mapsource), you need to click the "Install Options" and selection Install to GPS and computer. This is also the place where you can select which regions to install if your GPS is low on available drive space, the install location on a computer, etc.

As already asked, I second the request that for folks with GPS models that offer Junction View, that when done, you reply with your nuvi model number and the size of the jcv file. I'm currently updating my non-Junction Viewed nuvi 750 but will wait for jcv results to come back before updating my 855 since I'd rather keep the older map with a large jcv file than get this new map with a smaller number of Junction Views if the new jcv file and viewable junction photos has been reduced.

Thanks for notice of the update and thanks in advance for jcv reports.

2012.20 on 3790LMT

The Garmin Lifetime Updater downloaded and installed North America 2012.20 to my 3790LMT. I chose install to device only.

The first phase downloaded, verified the download, and requested that the 3790 be disconnected and reconnected.

After reconnecting, I ran the Lifetime Updater again and clicked Install. It built the maps and then installed to the 3790.

Thanks. If it's as big for my nuvi 855, it'll be an increase. OK, I'll give it a try and start the update rather than wait for a 855 owner to report back. Fingers crossed here.

My nuvi 750 plus computer manual update went well--no hitch to report although I haven't tested either the nuvi or Mapsource with the new map yet.

You may have to fetch unlock codes for your computer - I went to try out the new map with RoadTrip on my Mac, and it told me I needed unlock codes - was easy to fetch...

< rant>
An annoyance: this new map has still not been updated for a street in Ames, Iowa that's been open for years now - I find it difficult to believe any excuse for not adding this particular street as it extends one major street in town to connect to another. I know for a fact it has been reported to Naveteq multiple times (my sister did it...) and I just used Garmin's version of a map error form to report it. Perhaps they'll finally get it into 2012.3 when THAT comes out... smh...

That's odd. No, my PC with Mapsource runs 2012.20 just fine with detail and POIs with no need for any user intervention. The unlocked map was installed on my PC and nuvi 750 like it's been for past updates with no need to enter any codes.

Good to see

It's good to see the jcv file has grown over the 2012.10 version.

I'm downloading 2012.20 now by the old way, and I'll see how big my version is.

It appears that there may be a relationship between memory size and JCV file size.

I knew I should have waited.

On the nuvi 855 (after removing lots of help and voice files), I went ahead and updated to 2012.20.

My gmapprom.img is 1,577,024, slightly smaller than for AJ's 3790LMT (but bigger than the 1.44GB I had with 2012.10).

But my new jcv file (D3153030A.jcv) dropped from 367,560KB in the 2012.10 map--with many northern AZ photo junction images--down to 51,016KB, a mere 14% of what it had been with the last update even though my nuvi, after the update to the new map, has 984MB of free space!

On the slight chance that my junction views were still there and Garmin simply found a way to better compress the data in the file, I simulated a route that had offered Junction Views with the 2012.10 map. As feared, I no longer have any junction views and fear that all of northern Arizona's junction views are gone as well.

Garmin offered this map update and never indicated that folks with junction views with the previous map would lose them when updating.

Garmin, this is totally disgusting on your part.

Long story short: if you have a nuvi with the 2012.10 map that offers junction views in your area, an update to this new map may remove the vast majority of junction views offered, even if your nuvi has more than enough free drive space to hold a larger jcv file. If having junction views is more important to you than an update of some streets and built-in POIs, etc. you may want to skip this update, even if you've paid for it with a numaps lifetime subscription.

The question now for me is, what backup files do I need to restore from my 2012.10 computer nuvi backup to put the 2012.10 map back on the nuvi: is it just the large .img map file and the .jcv file, or are there other files I need to replace as well to go back?

Shame on you, Garmin--first for doing this to us, and second for not warning users that an update will lose most of the recent Junction Views!
