Garmin Releases Automated Updater for Lifetime Map Owners

For the last few months a number of us have been beta testing a new facility for lifetime map owners to download and install their map updates. Garmin released the product today and it can be downloaded from http://www.garmin.com/lifetimeupdater

Garmin Lifetime Updater continually checks for available map updates and automatically downloads them to your computer. It then alerts you right on your desktop when files are ready to install.

Advanced options let you specify download speed and schedules.
Had same issue and removed
Had same issue and removed it and will continue to manually check and d/l when updates are available.

In Garmin's features for the product, what do they mean by "no web browser required"?
Mostly Handy but Occasionally Annoying
I like the benefit of being notified, but would prefer an email instead of having yet another process running in the background. Furthermore, once there is a map available, you can't stop it from repeatedly notifying you. Also, I'd like to be able to schedule the download for non-prime time (such as overnight) rather than having an extremely large download running while I'm using the Internet.
You can do that in the set-up

Nuvi 350, 760, 1695LM, 3790LMT, 2460LMT, 3597LMTHD, DriveLuxe 50LMTHD, DriveSmart 61, Garmin Drive 52, Garmin Backup Camera 40 and TomTom XXL540s.
Tried it for my new nuvi
Tried it for my new nuvi 1450 and wasn't pleased with the "to computer only" download. The map was downloaded but the install never made it past 0.5% after 10 hours! I installed and tried it on another computer and got exactly the same results
. I then installed the older Garmin Map Updater and the map was installed on the computer in less than 10 minutes after the download completed.
