Redbox file not loading

This is a great web site and I have loaded many files on both of my
Garmin's, but I can't get the redbox file to load. I have the latest POI
Loader, v 2.6.1.0, and it stops at 0% complete on the reading data files
screen. I have a 1gb micro SD card in my 2450 with over 900mb free, all my
poi files are on the card. I downloaded the file again and get the same
result. I am only trying to load this one file. Do you have any suggestions
to get this loaded?

I remember some problems in

I remember some problems in the past with this file.Type in Redbox in search above this page and look through some of the threads.

Mkae sure you also have the latest Poiloader. http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/

POILoader

2.5.4 loads it fine but 2.6.1 doesn't so it is most likely an issue with the file itself as charlesd45 mentioned.

You can download POILoader 2.5.4 from here:

http://www.gawisp.com/perry/

get the POILoaderForWindows file dated October 14, 2009

Note: the above sites directory display cuts off some of the visible file name, hence the need to look at the date of the file.

redbox file and poi loader

I uninstalled the poi loader on my computer, the latest version,2.6.1 with revo uninstaller, latest version. I then installed the file, version 2.5.4. I still have the new version, 2.6.1.
This is copied from the file properties in my download folder: POILoaderforWindows_254
Can anyone explain why this happened?

Redbox DVD Kiosk Locations

Downloaded Redbox and had the same results. I don't know why it stays at 0% but appears that it is still processing the large csv file (27,632 POIs).

I opened it in EPE which also took some time, then saved it as a GPX file. It still took a few seconds to get started but POILoader did compile the GPX file. This will at least get the POIs on your GPS.

I am guessing that it is a PC memory/POILoader problem. I'm going to close all programs now and just let POILoader chew on the file for a while to see what happens. I'm pretty impatient, so I have to go do something else while it runs.

EDIT - POILoader never left 0% Reading Files. I guess for now, if you want it you can use EPE to make a GPX file. I heading out now for the weekend but next week maybe the file can be broken into parts to see if there is a line POILoader doesn't like.

POI Loader 2.6.1 not working here either :(

dang ... just wanted to remove some old POI files and reload the rest same (only red light cameras updated) ... and can't do that ... sad

I updated POI Loader recently to 2.6.1 (running Windows 7 x64 here) and it hangs on reading data files 0% forever ... what's wrong with new POI Loader, any fixes?

it's not the loader

It's not a "loader" problem as much as it is poorly constructed files. Download new copies of your files and then run the loader.

Try this

As I've stated before with 2.6.1, delete the old POI file when using the loader. Close it, restart, and then allow it to create a new one. That worked for me.

tried deleteing old POI, no luck

yeah I always delete old POI (erase clean) and then load new ones fresh... thing is it always worked ... until 2.6.1 ...

and I have so many files ... don't even know which one is the problem ... look for yourselves and let me know if you think either of them is a known problem...

To many Redlight files.

Why do you have 11/29/2009 09:38 PM 1,354 Redlight-Beta.BMP
01/14/2010 12:47 AM 279,274 Redlight-Beta.csv ?You have 06/15/2011 Redlight-Cameras.csv .The beta was stopped some time ago.You now have the latest Redlight Cameras as a csv file.

Maybe you are just not showing it but I would have some categories for some of theses files.

right, beta was unneded

thanks. I deleted beta, somehow I overlooked it.

Actually I have deleted most of chain stores and gas stations, leaving only a couple things (e.g. red lights, speed camera, state parks and rest areas) and it still doesn't want to go... wierd...

I think I will try doing the opposite and will be adding them one by one to find the problem.

EDIT:
got it to work after I additionally deleted:
Advance Auto
AutoZone
NAPA
Best Buy
and maybe something else too.

will know soon which one exactly was a problem. be back laters.

A fast way may be to load

A fast way may be to load them to Extra Poi Editor and re-save them back as a Garmin csv file and see what happens. Some members have reported saving as a gpx file using EPE and had no problems with them loading after that.

thanks

thanks man.

it's always an option. I think (as mentioned above) that one of those files freezing the POI Loader was broken.

Main reason I used so many POI files of things that could actually be well searched via Garmin database, was that I liked seeing an icon on the map while driving around those places (useful when traveling).

time to find the root cause and update it ir stop using it.

again, thanks to all for useful suggestions.

No problem TSince you posted

No problem. Since you posted that you deleted some files it would be a good idea to delete them also from your My Favorite Files.

the answer was - autozone POI file broken

OK, found the bugger.
AutoZone USA POI file is broken and freezes the loader process upon reading it.

my version is dated 2009, but file could have been older than that.
updating it with AutoZone USA POI (March 2011) instead, hopefully the new one works.

EDIT:
and yet again, this time progress on reading files was freezing on 73% and it came up that newly added (old file though) Stop & Shop POI was broken too... time to update all of them I guess haha smile

HINT for people using lots of POI files like I do:
if it is freezing at 0% then chances are it's one of first files (alphabetically, e.g. Autozone USA in my case), while if it freezing closer to the end of process than it's about one of last files causing the trouble (e.g. 73% Stop & Shop).

That was my suggestion

My suggestion a couple hours ago was to reload the files. Up just below your name is a list of links. One of those is "My Favorite Files" This is a list of the files you download and when a new version is available you get a red NEW with the file name. It even shows the date of the last update.

THANK YOU!

Thanks man! I have realized just now what you meant smile
it's an awesome option. I updated all POI, deleted a few broken or outdated (not maintained anymore), this helps smile

Stop * Shop NJ NY POI was broken and no longer updated, had to remove it for good.

All good now smile

Usually when people tell us

Usually when people tell us "it worked before" on an old version of POI loader and now isn't it generally points to a broken file. You then need to be a detective to find it. The best way is to break the files apart and load only half at a time till you find the culprit.

You also have a lot of files that are outdated when there are more current files. Why run outdated files. The reason for POI factory is to get the most current. Using outdated files is just like using what is on the GPS (outdated).

Narrowed the file to a bad section; made it work

I had the same problem with the file not loading. It stuck at 0%. I broke the file into sections, and started experimenting. In the end, I was able to successfully load the entire file, EXCEPT for records 4534 to 4666. I didn't narrow it any further. There must be a bad record in this set of 130 somewhere. I still got the other 27,500 of them to load properly.

Are you feeling lucky?

You know the Redbox location you want will certainly be one of those bad ones! grin

That is one hugh file, good job. It can wait for a little while. Tomorrow is another day. Time for bed.

Problem with freezing while POI Loader reads data file

If anyone is having problem with CSV files freezing while these data files are being read, try opening up the files using excel and replace all occurrences of " with spaces. Make sure you open with excel. If you open with anything other than excel and do a 'replacing' you will screw-up the file. The invalid use of " will appear in excel because of the syntax problem. Good Luck
