Limit to Waypoints

I have a garmin nuvi 350 and am using EasyGPS version 4.15 to edit GPX files.

ON of my GPX files has 256 waypoints in it and when I use POI loader to upload the file to my unit, many of the waypoints are renamed to "POI".

Is there some 8-bit limit to the number of waypoints within the Garmin unit or the software?

I don't think so

If there is a limit it's huge and I'm not sure I've heard of anyone maxing it out. WAY over 256 anyway.

Maybe some of your pois in the file have the same name?? (and it calls the dupes POI??)

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

no dupes

I can do a sort by name and it is obvious that there are no dupes.

Could POI Loader be doing something to the files?

Hmm..

[scratching my head..]
I've never encountered it myself, so I'm at a loss. Maybe I'm imagining it but it does sound a bit like something I've read someplace and if so, I'm afraid I can't remember where.

Any odd characters in the names?

Not sure about EasyGPS

I just downloaded and installed EasyGPS. I looked at sample raw gpx file from EasyGPS and compared it to one from EPE. I am curious because it doesn't have a category as the EPE file does but has a category instead. Does POILoader handle both of these the same?

If not, how would it give the POI a name?

I don't know but its too late tonight to look anymore.

I think I got it

odd characters yes, such as "&" but I don't think that's the problem.

In the easyGPS software there are two pairs of fields that seem to do the same thing. "Label" and "waypoint" both have the apparent name of the location. "description" and "comment" both seem to have the Address description. When you enter the first, it gives you the option to copy it to the other. What I found one time was that when you click to view a waypoint on the unit, the address shows twice under the waypoint name. So I thought, I'll just eliminate the duplication by not copying the Label to Waypoint and Description to Comment. but it seems that the Waypoint field is needed more-so than the Label one and the Description is more needed than the Comment.

I'll try that and see how it goes....

yeah that's it

That was the problem: Waypoint is a necessary field. Label can be different and seems only to be visible in easyGPS. Description and Comment will both show up so you only need one with the address.

I had downloaded EPE but haven't tried it yet so I'm not sure what issues you are having. easyGPS works quite nicely for what I need. I just wish that we could upload and download to the Garmin directly without using POI loader. Sure I could upload to FAVorites from easyGPS but that is not how I like to have my stored points organized.

Where do waypoints show up?

I took a quick look at EasyGPS and it seems to be something a person interested in geocaching would find very helpful.

My question is this. When you run EasyGPS what does it change? My feeling is that it probably puts a new .gpx file in the X:\Garmin\GPX (recall that POILoader creates a .gpi file in the X:|Garmin\POI folder). I think this would make the waypoints show up in Favorites rather than Custom POIs.

In order to get to your "stored points", what do you do in terms of "touches" on the Nuvi?

It would be helpful if you would look at the Nuvi just after EasyGPS has loaded your waypoints and see what changed. If you are willing to do this, please let us know what you find.
