Can get Red Light custom alerts to play on Nuvi 265WT

the 265wt doesn't play mp3 ... so I d/l the red light & speed camera sound files in wav format.
Put the Sox Exe in the poi loader folder and tried to put to Garmin ... All I still get are the beeping alert sounds that I previously was getting.

Any suggestions most appreciated.

The files I attempted to load are:
Speed-Cameras.wav
redlight_nuvi_amer_eng_jill.wav

File Names

All file names have to be named the same.

To keep it simple, I use the RLC and speed cam .csv names for the sound files. That way, you don't have to change a thing.

Sox has to be in the same folder as the POILoader.exe program. The sound files and the icon file have to have the same exact name as the poi file with the exception of the extension.

Watch for double extensions. Windows, as a default, hides the MP3, WAV, and BMP extensions.

Sorry to point the obvious, but I keep all the POI csv files, bmp icons and wav files in the same folder that I'm pointing POI loader to transfer to my nuvi. They need to be together and have the names as indicated in the previous posts.

Also, I always make sure that the wav files are of the right sampling rate, mono, etc. At first I was trying to skimp on storage and they wouldn't work, and I don't know if sox.exe does any type of conversion. I don't remember the right settings for the .wav, but a quick search on the forum should turn them up.

Exactly...

That's the thread I was looking for! Follow the instructions and you will have success. Personally, I tried many times to get them to work until I read the thread charles45 just linked.

One thing to note: use the version of sox.exe in the link. The latest version does not work.

WAV Files

I didn't care for the wav files here because they sound very computer generated. And going to the site mentioned in the above link also sounded canned. I made my own using my own microphone and a simple sound recorder. If you have access to such, you can make your own wav files very easily. Note that many modern laptops come with built in microphone. (I actually have an outboard microphone tied to a desktop.)

If anyone cares to have a copy of my red light camera file (my voice), I would be happy to email it. I uploaded here to POI Factory and got a nice thank you note but the wav and mp3 files I contributed were never posted.

This is related to the sound card quality, not the file itself. Better card, better transposing.

same as above users

same as above users mentioned.

For red light camera,

rlc.csv
rlc.bmp
rlc.wav

For Speed cam, same theory,

speed.csv
speed.bmp
speed.wav

you can rename anything you want as long as same name (different extensions of course!) it should work.

Just use express settings in garmin poi loader. RLC & Speedcam files are ready for the alerts.

Finally, read the URL what charlesd45 posted. He is one of the best helpers here. Most of my problems
were solved by following his references.

Could you expand on that,

Could you expand on that, Juggernaut? I downloaded the WAV files from here, transferred to my GPS and they didn't sound very good. I'm not sure where my sound card came into play. I'm not sure how SOX.exe is involved with sound files but I know it's required, so I assume that has something to do with it? If so, how does recording my own wav file (same sound card by the way) work better?

Sound

I stumbled across this thread and I had never investigated alternate sounds for POI's before. I definitely like the idea of something other than the "bong" for red light warnings. I decided to try an experiment and see how it works on the Nuvi 765T. I took an MP3 of Sting's "Roxanne" and edited it to one word: Red Light. I'll have to see how it works with Sting calling out "Red Light"!
