Best Buy Locations

I have one almost ready to go...
I'm a little worried that the lines
are a little too long but if anyone
has an issue with it being to large
for their screen, I will remove
the phone #'s and addresses.

Thanks, it will need testing for sure. I found a file on another site that gave me a huge head start. A lot of it was formated wrong so I have been going through it trying to clean it up. I will more than likely post it tomorrow. Feel free to go through it and see if you can find any mistakes, I may not have found them all. It's a huge poi with 714 locations. I'm sure this is going to make a lot of poi factory members happy : - )

Please make sure it's okay to repost. Otherwise, I'm likely to get a call or a letter asking that I take it down.

That's a good idea. I will write them to make sure it's ok to post to another site. The site is very similar to POI Factory. Users post their own coordinates that they have compiled and share with each other. Although I like POI Factory better : - ), it's a pretty decent site. I'll see if I can find some contact info, and let you know it's fine before I post.

It seems there is no good way to get in touch with the site where I got the Best Buy coordinates so it's probably best if we not post for the sake of the poi factory site. I would hate for them to get an angry letter asking to remove the file.

will this work for a garmin c330?

The c330 works with POI Loader, so you should be able to load any of the files on this site (provided they fit in the c330's memory).

Just bought a c330 a couple days ago and have become a huge fan of this site and others like it. Quick question though, if my GPS already has POI's preloaded for places like Best Buy, what is the benefit of having a custom list of Best Buys loaded into the system?

Some brands / models don't have as many locations as your C330. In other cases, people use custom POIs to make it a little more convenient to see just their favorite stores (without typing in a search filter).

Some files (e.g., Geysers, Star Parties, etc.) are pretty unusual and not likely to be in the commercial databases.

Are you compiling all of the stores in the US?

Still working on it. So far, I've finished and uploaded all the states starting with the letters A - M's. It's amazing to see how many stores they actually have in each state.

I've taken the BestBuy.csv and edited it a bit to make it look more clean on my 360.

Basically I made column C say "Best Buy-TOWN NAME" and column D is now formatted to read "Street Address, City, State ZIP; Phone".

I've got the CSV file if anyone wants it, or if Rich would like to update the one he has posted right now.

good to know... I'm sure my wallet won't like it.

There's one posted already. Looks pretty accurate, but if I recall it's about a year old.
There is one near my house in Charlotte that is not listed, it opened about 8 months ago.

If you have the address send it to the author of the file and they can update it so that everyone can find it.

not sure if anyone is still updating this file, but thought I'd add info here for another one.

This one has been around for several years, but is in a shopping area "Consumer Square" and all of the stores have an address like "100 Consumer Square". Sadly this road is not in the 2008 maps for the Garmin so this best buy isn't in the built in garmin database. Anyways, sorry for the ramble, here's the info:

Just wondering if the author or anyone is updating this file anymore.

For myself I started with a copy of BestBuy.csv and updated from there. I am up to 740 stores. I added the new stores listed in this thread as well as several other stores from NJ that weren't on the list either. I also ordered the list to clean it up a bit.

My question is should I post my updated file? Might the original author get grumpy at someone else changing it? What is the etiquette here?

there's like 2 best buys near pasadena, ca that are totally off. I went by the POI file and got to the wrong place. However, I didn't write it down so forgot. The stores where the file leads to begins w/ "Best buy"...but aren't the electronics store.

This location will be added to the file today, sorry it took so long to get it taken care of.
