please help POI trip to Chicago

I own a Garmin 1350T gps and this coming spring I am planing a trip to Chicago and Wisconsin to view some of the homes of the architect Frank Lloyd Wright
I found on this site the work of mclassing http://www.poi-factory.com/node/27915 in which he put EVERY one of the architects structures in a csv form
Thank You!
I have loaded that entire data base into a google docs so now I have every structure with its address and longitude/laatitde
On my trip this coming spring I will visit a few homes on one day and a few on another day. How can organize these mini daily trips into folders? My thinking is to generate from EasyGPS a csv file from each of the 10 or so structures that I would visit on each of my mini trips but how do I put those into individual folders that I can easily pull up on my GPS? I looked at this page from poi-factory and I think it is getting closer to what I want to do http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721
(I do not need any sound alerst)
Any help and/or suggestions is appreciated!
Thank You!

The custom pois by categories will do the trick. If you want the voice alerts instead of the standard bong.See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730 .Your unit will not play mp3 so you need the sox.exe and wav file.Plenty of sounds to download from site.Plus you can make your own. That is covered in the instructions.

custom poi's?

how do I do the custom poi's?
Easygps for me was not that easy i did the waypoints but could not enter any digits that had a - in front of it so i just took it off
so i do not know if the waypoint is correct or not
ex -87.70184 41.8732
easy gps would not take the - sign
so i took it off and did two way points and saved it as a .gpx put that in a sub folder (as the instructions instructed) in a folder on my desk top and sent it to the garmin
they showed up in the extras folder the two waypoints were not separated...i could have just as well saved them as favorites
after working every day for 5 to 6 hours on this for a week purchasing mapsource is looking like my only recourse
OR
just entering each point on my journey as a favorite than deleting all of them and adding the next days destinations
grrrrrr!

Keep it simple......

I think you are making this WAY more complicated than it needs to be. I don't know that you even have to enter each one as a "favorite".

Not sure about the proper term to use on a Garmin but I think each could be entered as a "way point" on a single trip......or on 2 trips, if you insist on splitting it up.

On my Magellan, it automatically saves a list of "previous destinations" too; meaning destinations that you have mapped, not necessarily really gone to.

Custom pois

If the file you want on your gps is http://www.poi-factory.com/node/27915 .Make a folder on your computer and call it My pois. Now take file you downloaded and put it in the folder My pois.Connect gps to computer using usb cable. Now run poi loader http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/ .
When you see screen find device make sure you select the proper one. Click next and put mark in Install new custom Poi’s onto your device.
Click next. Using Browse make sure to select the folder location for My poi’s .This is the simplest way to do it.Once you complete this we will work on the categories.

ideally by address

here is my first Frank Lloyd Wright look see

stop 1 301 South Kenilworth Avenue, Elmhurst, IL -87.93841 41.89209
stop 2 42 North Central Avenue, Chicago, IL 60644 @41.88154,-87.764907
stop 3 3005 West Carroll Avenue, Chicago, IL 60612
stop 4 2840 W Walnut St, Chicago, Cook, Illinois 60612 @41.885512,-87.698005
stop 5 209 north lasalle 60601
stop 6 1365 North Astor Street, Chicago, IL 60610
stop 7 7415 North Sheridan Road, Chicago, IL

The above is one day driving into Chicago and the next day would be a similar list of structures grouped within a reasonable driving distance

the above stops was generated through google maps
and they are all well known Frank Lloyd Wright sites
I do not have the longitude and latitude for all of them

Thanks Again!

Every one you listed here is on the download file with all the information.I believe every thing you need is in the file.It is a matter of taking it out and make a separate csv file by day and loading to gps.I set the file up and added state so I could sort it by state to get some order to the file.

I emailed you.Reply back and I will send you the file and we can figure out exactly what you want to do.

He only wants to visit 14 or so locations and he HAS the addresses. By the time this is done, he could have entered them into the GPS manually........about 30 times.

While this might be good training for future POI file manipulations, it is a gross waste of time for this trip.

I will give him the

I will give him the information he needs and he can make that decision on how he wants to do it.

I would advise in the

I would advise in the strongest possible terms to also load the Red Light cameras file. Do a manual load, and set the distance to 660 feet or so-the default of 1320 gives way too many false positives for cameras on adjacent streets.

posted for everyone:

I own a Garmin 1350t and began the search/research to generate poi's into folders/categories
Posing a question here was somewhat helpful but for me did not solve the poi problem.
After tedious reading/searching via the internet and working with my Garmin I finally gave up and returned to my Mio c310x The old Mio was by far the best (compared to the 1350t that I own)at generating and organizing poi's
Let me show you:
When you turn on the 1350t and tap menu this is what you
see: http://imgur.com/l2a4M
Tap the little house in the far bottom right corner and you will see this: http://imgur.com/l2a4M.jpg
click MAP not COCKPIT and you will see this screen:
http://imgur.com/6jWyT
Now that you are in MAP mode tap menu than address and enter through the address you are looking to add to you POI file
Now once the address is located on the map look at the bottom right corner of the screen and tap ADD POI
see here: http://imgur.com/trMdA
tap ADD POI and give your poi a name http://imgur.com/jqZXf
than you will presented with a screen to enter that location (POI) to an existing folder or generate a NEW FOLDER http://imgur.com/MdJV1
HOW ABOUT THAT FOLDERS!!!
when you tap the settings icon you go to a screen which you can MANAGE YOUR POI'S!
http://imgur.com/cKQbr
on the next screen you will see MY POI http://imgur.com/vwsxd
tap that and you will see ALL OF YOUR POI FOLDERS!!
here is a pic of the stops I have in one of my folders:

IF ANYONE HAS A NEWER/CURRENT GPS THAT HAS THE ABOVE FEATURES PLEASE LET ME AND THE REST OF US KNOW!
The poi csv categories favorites mess that we have to deal with is just that a MESS!

You made this more difficult

You have now posted this in 3 different forums/nodes. What Charlesd45 was giving you was the easiest. Separate out of the main csv file the stops you wanted for Day 1 and create a separate csv file. Do the same for the other days so you have separate csv files. Then put them in the gps as a custom poi.

Stop 2

Ummm...Stop 2 is not in the best of neighborhoods.

It is close to ....
"Oak Park, Illinois is home to the world's largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright designed buildings and houses, with 25 structures built between 1889 and 1913. "

http://www.oprf.com/flw/

I'm surprise you are not stopping in Oak Park...

Just saying...

Other than the ability to put POIs in a directory on the fly, my Garmin does all of this. Maybe I'm misunderstanding you here, but it appears this is a rant made solely out of frustration because you weren't getting the answers you wanted. All simply because Garmin doesn't do things the way you think they should be done.

You have the gift of hyperbole, and you paint with a very wide brush. We, or more accurately, I, don't have a problem with how Garmin chooses to do POIs. You, on the other hand, did in fact make things more difficult for yourself.

Next time, before you post...you've got some more learning to do. http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/posting
