the old poi generate/folders sure was better!

I own a Garmin 1350t and began the search/research to generate poi's into folders/categories
Posing a question here was somewhat helpful but for me did not solve the poi problem.
After tedious reading/searching via the internet and working with my Garmin I finally gave up and returned to my Mio c310x The old Mio was by far the best (compared to the 1350t that I own)at generating and organizing poi's
Let me show you:
When you turn on the 1350t and tap menu this is what you
see: http://imgur.com/l2a4M
Tap the little house in the far bottom right corner and you will see this: http://imgur.com/l2a4M.jpg
click MAP not COCKPIT and you will see this screen:

Now that you are in MAP mode tap menu than address and enter through the address you are looking to add to you POI file
Now once the address is located on the map look at the bottom right corner of the screen and tap ADD POI
see here: http://imgur.com/trMdA
tap ADD POI and give your poi a name http://imgur.com/jqZXf
than you will presented with a screen to enter that location (POI) to an existing folder or generate a NEW FOLDER http://imgur.com/MdJV1
HOW ABOUT THAT FOLDERS!!!
when you tap the settings icon you go to a screen which you can MANAGE YOUR POI'S!

on the next screen you will see MY POI http://imgur.com/vwsxd
tap that and you will see ALL OF YOUR POI FOLDERS!!
here is a pic of the stops I have in one of my folders:

IF ANYONE HAS A NEWER/CURRENT GPS THAT HAS THE ABOVE FEATURES PLEASE LET ME AND THE REST OF US KNOW!
From what I surmise the present poi, csv, categories, favorites, mess that we have to deal with is just that a MESS!

What do you want?

You have referenced a number of screens from your MIO 310. since I do not have one, I can only surmise that you walked through how to create what I would call "Recently Found" and/or "Favorites" on my 765T.

On your 1350T, any place that you locate should give the option to "Go" to that place or "Save" it. What this means to me is that I can find a POI in the 6 million or so built in to the GPS and "save" it so that it becomes a "Favorite". As a favorite I can determine (and later change if I want) a category for that favorite.

Is that what you were wanting to do?

He liked the ability of the

He liked the ability of the Mio to create folders on the fly for storing POIs. In fact, that's the only thing the Mio can do that Garmins cannot. Even then, as you already know, he could have set up a folder structure on his computer so that when the files were transferred via POI Loader he'd have the folder structure with them.

Really, the impression I got is that he simply didn't want to take the time to learn about the machine he bought, and as a result he's unhappy.

I thought so too

Categories

Looks to me like what you are describing is the same as Garmin's Favorites & assigned Categories for Favorites. Looking at your 1350T manual, it appears that you can assign Favorite Categories (page 12 & 13, Finding Saved Places & Editing Saved Places).

POIs under Garmin's Extras/Custon POIs menu are user-added by upload from the PC and are slightly different than Favorites. Built-in map POIs, user-added Custom POIs, searched/found map addresses, etc. can all be added to Favorites and can be assigned Categories. Maybe that's where the confusion is?

..All of that deals with the various ways users here like to load and view their Custom POIs, for the most part. Putting the Custom POIs into categories (which is different than Favorite Categories) on the unit can be done by several methods, and opinions here about the best way to do that can be very strong.
