How to hack Nuvi 350 to start with map

Is there a hack to set Garmin Nuvi 350 to open with map automatically so I wouldn't have to tap on the screen each time I start the car? Garmin support people told me it can't be done, but has someone heard of a hack to do this?

I had Tomtom One once and then I got Nuvi 350, each required a tap on the screen to start. In TT it was to agree to the safety warning, in Garmin it is to tap on map to see it. I got rid of the TT but I keep and use Garmin and like it a lot.

.

On the 3xx/6xx series, it's not possible. The nuvi OS is a closed system with no hacks.

Beginning with the 7x0 series, the unit will automatically go to the map screen after actual movement (~.25 mile) is detected.

If you wait

If you wait 30 seconds or longer it will switch to the map screen by itself. It isn't quite a hack, but it works grin

Edit: Apparently I was wrong. You need to move. Waiting doesn't do wonder.

Thanks DN

It would be nice to have that option on my Nuvi. Good to know that other models have it

Not on Nuvi 350

On 350 I need to physically tap the map icon every time when the GPS turns on to be able to see the map.

Quite a burden...

I realize how this can be such a burden....Not to be rude but COME ON LETS GET REALISTIC...If you have a passenger maybe they could tap on the screen for you....

I can see how delivery guys

Or other drivers that turn on/off their cars more frequently can be annoyed by this. My Magellan 3200 has map screen as start screen by default and I liked it that way more than having Main Menu screen as start screen.

Most people have they gps pluged in so when you turn off the ignition the gps will ask to stay on or turn off. If you have a hot always cig litter plug then it has no effect on the gps unless you unplug the power cord.

Burden or not

I've been doing this 12x daily for 3 years, so that's 15000 taps that could be avoided. 15k extra taps can't be good for the environment razz

Your problem is not having

Your problem is not having to tap the Garmin screen to get to the map. Your problem is having to continually restart the vehicle to turn on the Garmin.

The solution is obvious. wink

Constant power

Get a constant power plug instead of the one going through the ignition. Problem solved. Except for everyone seeing it on, and in that case just hide it with it still connected. The unit does get pretty warm when left in the console or glove box while it is on. Needless to say I did not do this for long.

.

Well, you can always turn the unit off... wink

Glad to know that I'm not

Glad to know that I'm not the last 350 survivors out there.

Howdy!

Got mine years ago at Circuit City (RIP) for $260 on Black Friday sale and with some coupon involved.

I looked at some more advanced new units and I decided to keep my trusty 350 for as long as it lives. It is so well designed and easy to read. And with added camera warnings it's just SWEET. I like it a lot. smile

Nuvi 3xx and 6xx are still very nice models

They do not have route. They also take longer time to acquire satelite signal. But they are still very nice basic gps to guide you from point a to point b.

Little button to press in the bottom and all is disconnected. The flip antenna is kind of lame though.
