Adding maps to Nuvi

Hi!
New to this in car gps so bear with me. Purchased a Nuvi 1340 in the UK with the European map set on and also a micro sd card with the North America maps on. Thought it would be neater if I could put the North America maps on the internal memory (there seems to be space) and use the micro sd slot for the poi's. Can this be done; if yes, how?

Thanks in advance

.

No, you cannot copy the preloaded SD Card maps to the nuvi's internal memory (or elsewhere). Well, you can physically -copy- the maps but they will only work using that particular SD Card...the maps are locked to the card. The advantage is that you can use the card in any GPS that supports the maps/memory card format.

re: Adding maps to Nuvi...

There's no real need to flip maps. It's working fine so leave it that way. POIs don't use that much memory and can reside on the internal built-in memory. I think you're making unnecessary work for yourself and risking voiding the original (EU) map. I'd leave it the way it is.

Adding Maps to Nuvi

Well it seemed a good idea at the time! Thanks for the info; I will leave "as is".

what about copying from internal memory to an SD card?

Given busdriber330's situation, if you wanted to free up space within the Nuvi, could you get a second SD card and move the UK/Euro maps onto that? (and then delete the UK/Euro maps) Presumably, the SD card would only work with that Nuvi, of course, but could it be done?

Even if the second SD card doesn't actually work, would doing this allow you to temporarily save off your maps so that they could be restored at a later time? (in which case, it probably makes more sense to copy them off to, say, a USB hard drive)

Just curious how much flexibility one has in moving maps about.

(How much internal memory does the 1340 have, anyway?)

Johnfw07 will meditate on your thoughts. Rather new to this in car GPS and don't want to end up with nothing. In properties internal memory is shown as 3.62gb with 1.5gb still free. I just thought I might be able to use the free space to add the NA maps. No great hardship to use the sd card.
