Bluetooth

spullis wrote:

Does anyone know if this helps correct the Bluetooth problems with this unit?

I tested the Bluetooth today and there is a change in behavior. The phone icon now appears immediately upon connecting. It still takes time to download the phone book, contacts, etc. but you can now dial immediately. Under 3.90 (and earlier?) you had to wait until the phone was downloaded before the icon appeared.

Traffic Icon with an 855

bandaid wrote:

Just completed a 25 mile run with my 755t.

1. Traffic icon no longer grayed out.
2. No delays when typing new address. When selecting letters to type the accuracy has been improved.

Looks like Garmin gave us a gift. Now when I drive over the posted speed limit my current speed changes to red. .

No re boots, all looks good here. I'll post more tonight as I have a long day ahead of me. Have a nice day guys.

I never see a grey traffic icon with my 855 w/GTM 20... actually I have never seen the traffic icon at all in any color! Traffic works fine, just no traffic icon. I get traffic alerts on the map display and a voice alert. Does anyone with an 855 get the traffic icon?

The discussion here is related to the 7x5 series. The 8x5 series does not display the quad-color (grey/green/yellow/red) traffic icon like the newer Garmin units do.

That reminds me, Relevant or not. Bought momma a new car this year, comes with that sync my Ford thing. Does the hands free phone thing and vehicle check-up and turn by turn directions and some other stuff ...all for 700 bucks or so. All we get up here is the hands free phone. Only the US gets the other stuff, same with red speed warning icon maybe? I paid for it, I want it sad

V4.0 Update - Simulator Under the Speed Limit

Anyone notice that now in simulator mode the vehicle travels under the speed limit by 2 miles per hour instead of over the speed limit by 5 miles per hour?

Perhaps Garmin was getting sued for making
minds of mush think it's OK to exceed the speed limit. There has to be a lawyer involved in the decision somewhere.

Actually, after it was reported that the sign turned red when over the limit, I did a sim to make sure mine worked. I found it was under on the residential streets, but did go over a few mph on the freeways.

Simulation speed

I just simulated a route on my 755T (version 4.0) and it is simulating 3 to 7 MPH over the speed limit (with the speed indicator now showing in red) on most road classes. If you did a hard reset after your software upgrade, it will reset the learned average speed values by road classification and will therefore probably show slower speeds in simulation than you saw before. After you use it a while in real navigation, the simulation speeds will change again based on your driving habits.

Simulation speed

Good point. I will watch the unit to see how it increases. I did three short simulations after I upgraded, just horsing around with it while relaxing. On the roads leading away from my home it always run 5mph fast, but on those same roads it is 2 under now. I have traveled hundreds of miles with the unit since I made he observation. I will see if it increases over time.

upgrade

completed a couple of long trips. part one from salt lake city to Vancouver BC, with 3.90, the unit almost became road kill, the problem with hitting one key and another activates for some reason became really bad, finally got it to the calibration routine, that seemed to correct it. the lane assist and the exit visualization kicked in around Seattle, the visualization of the exit didn't last long enough to be of any real value especially in high traffic, the lane assist seemed to work ok , showed the correct lasted for a while but would be a good idea for it to show up sooner. the second trip was from salt lake city to st joseph mi, this was done after an upgrade to 4.0, it seemed like the lane assist has developed a problem, normally the lane you take is highlighted and other options are grayed out this was not the case, it was hit and miss, some times all options were highlighted, also it seemed the lane assist worked ok going to st joseph but not coming back, don't remember any visualizations showing up either way. the traffic icon was on the screen but grayed out most of the time.

upgrade - one more thing

the fm transmitter is for me anyway a must for this unit, with out it the unit sounds real tinny, the mp3 is also for me a must on long trips, found out I need to fill up a sdhc card for these trips.

V4.0 & Address Book

Since updating to V4.0 when I find an address and then save it there seems to be a difference from prior versions. Every address goes into an "Address Book" category instead of in the "Favorites" like it used to.

Is there an option some where to change this?

Or am I mistaken and this is the way it always worked?

--
Nuvi 2460LMT

.

The address book is a sub category of Favorites. Of course, you can add categories like friends, business, etc. as well.

I don't want any category.

I don't want any category. I'd rather it just be added to "Favorites".

Is this possible?

I like the alert that you're going over the speed limit. That alone is worth the update. Have used it sparingly since the update but no problems noticed.

I would think

I haven't upgraded to v4 yet, but if there is no way to change this default behavior, I would think that you'd still be able to edit the entry by un-checking the assigned category (Favorites, select poi, edit, change category), so none are checked.

You’re correct Jugg. If you save an address in your favorites and uncheck everything in your “Change Categories” for that address, its still saved in favorites just fine.

4.0 update works perfectly!

4.0 update works perfectly! The 765t is definitely back to its once status of one of the top GPSs out there (even though other than the second character hang on POI search I never had any problems at all with my 765t)

I will give it a try today,

I will give it a try today, lets see if still working after the update.

Calculating: Stuck at 99%

ikeler wrote:

I just updated my 765 to 4.0

I updated to 4.0 and the traffic icon and typing problems were fixed, however, now when I put in an address, it starts to calculate and gets stuck at 99%. This is really a problem b/c lately I have been travelling alot and have been depending on the GPS for directions. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix for this? Thanks.

Is there an audible speed

Is there an audible speed alert? The red numbers are nice, but I keep my eyes on the road more so than a speedometer or an lcd screen.

No problem here.

You might try a hard reset if you haven't already, it seems to correct some weird problems now and then.

Not on the unit but if you hear a siren behind you then you will know the red was on.

See, it's all in how you look at it. The Garmin's not lacking a feature... it's got Surround Sound™.

I can't believe it's taken

I can't believe it's taken them this long to release this. I've returned 3 units because of the touchscreen, and nobody in tech support seemed to know anything about touchscreen issues with this model (I still can't believe that). Then, I've sent so many emails to tech support about it, and even created a youtube video for them to see what I was talking about. Every response back was "calibrate the screen." Needless to say I will never use their email support again.
I don't want to sound like I hate their support though. All of the support reps I talked to on the phone (except for one) were very nice, and replaced my unit every time with prepaid shipping, which was great. I just wish they would have samples of the units so they could have seen what I was talking about, especially with an issue like this. Plus, I was going to call them in a week or so and tell them I couldn't take the touchscreen issues anymore. I'm glad I checked for this firmware as I haven't had any problems since then.
It was bad because I loved the unit so much and picked it because of all the great features it has, but I couldn't recommend it to anyone because of the touchscreen. Now I definitely would recommend it.

99% Calculation

bsp131,

I experienced the same problem earlier this year with my 785t. After it calculated to 99%, I received an error window stating "Cannot calculate the route". After several calls to Garmin, several hard resets, reloading maps, etc..., I finally had to return the unit to Garmin for an exchange. They couldn't figure it out, but it seemed to happen after I installed a new map update.

Good Luck!

Did the update!

I did the update and it works great now! The red over speed numbers are a nice update.

Finally a worthwhile upate!

Update works great! I was about to dump my 765T because of all the issues, but I think I'll hang onto it for a while.

Map Updates for my 765T

I also updated software today, update was a breeze.
Been trying to update my map set though for nearly 2 days, still no success.
Anyone have suggestions

the screen issue became so bad my latest unit almost became road kill, a screen calbration brought it back to usable levels, the new firmware release seems to have corrected it for me also, the bad thing is the 765t has a lot of usefully features, the fm transmitter is a must as the installed speaker is really bad, the mp3 is great for long trips when you are using the fm transmitter for voice instructions. now that garmin seems to finally have gotten most of the major problems fixed it would be ashame for them to stop supporting it.

Update problems

Nuvi model is 765T, purchased unit in June, purchase included one free update so I'd been waiting for 2011 to be released. I was able to update the unit's software so thought I'd give the map update a try.
I was able to get thru the map update process to the point of running the updater program using the laptop I use at work, found that you must be logged in as "admin" to install the updater plug-in, so the laptop was out.
So, moved to my home desktop, on my desktop I couldn't get passed the "computer ready", "device ready", screen would hang on "processing" for hours.
I've given up on the desktop, I bribed the IT guy at work today and he installed the updater plug in on my office desktop and all is good!! I have 2011 maps installed and running on my 765T. Now if I can get rid of the darn RED speed indicator I'd be a happy GPS'r.
If anyone has a reason why my home desktop wouldn’t work I’d be interested, but for now I’ll use the one at work.

.

Ragwingr wrote:

In nighttime mode, the red over-speed indicator is pretty annoying as the red color blends into the nighttime data field color, making the speed nearly unreadable. It's fine in daytime color mode though.

I agree that fixing screen is 'a quite accomplishment' for Garmin (how difficult is to make it RIGHT the very first time???) and gimmick like red color when you are over the speed limit (if you are NOT aware of a speed limit on street you are driving, and some toy has to tell you that - you should be in the car driving) but they screwed up other things.
Language guide stopped working. No pronunciations anymore until new firmware is made. And they screwed up their own app THEY are selling for $75.

But bitching on this forum will not help. How many of you ACTUALLY complained to Garmin regarding 'invisible' red at night and other issues? How difficult is to call them (toll-free) or write simple note?

nuMap Update needs a good .NET Framework

I have two Dell Latitude Portables, D800 & D830 with MapSource on each.

The newer (D830) would not complete the 'new' Garmin Update nuMap utility, had done fine on March and May 5th before change of May 8th.

Turned out to be a corrupted .NET Framework and I ended up searching and then completely uninstalling All NF, then running cleanup utility and reinstall of NF 3.5, 1.1 2.0 and 4.5 (in that order) then updating through MS Update.

(Long seen symptom was failure of MS Update for NF 3.5 sp2 for the past year.)

Now the Garmin Lifetime nuMap worked perfectly and is on both Dell's MapSource.

ssame problem

I ran into exactly the same problem, only I let Garmin Tech Support figure it out and they had basically the same solution. Worked great for me after the fix as well.

please re read my comment

I was praising garmin for the fix. I am currently looking for another 765t for
my wife. I am pleased with the keyboard fix.
I enjoy this forum and all of your wisdom.

My apology

I was not exactly 'attacking' anybody on this forum nor it was my intention.
What I find on most forums is that bunch of people with the same interest get together and then discuss and whine and cry on each other shoulder but NOBODY actually take ANY action contacting manufacturer or developer.
I hope situation on this board is different and if most of us complain to Garmin they might speed up development of an update.

Thanks!

I've used an old Garmin i5 for the longest time and finally updated to the 765T a couple months ago. I was so tickled by the upgrade in performance and features that I wasn't even paying attention to these little issues that are mentioned here. After reading this forum I realized that I had some of the same issues. I have updated my Garmin and am SURE I will love it even more.

As a side note, my traffic icon has worked fairly well. However, while in Orlando this past weekend the traffic icon disappeared (first time ever) and the GPS started beeping every 5 minutes or so. We were in heavy traffic. Came home and read the entire manual front to back and found no mention of a "beeping" in traffic so still don't know what was up with that.

Also, just as a matter of curiosity, the GPS will highlight previously traveled routes in a different color. Not sure how useful it is for me, but pretty cool - does anyone know how long this data stays in the GPS? Couple days? week? until I leave the area? Just curious

Not positive but I think you're talking about trip log

Under settings/map/trip log you can turn on or hide. If you have trip log enabled I believe that is why you see previously travel routes. Turn it off and they'll disapeer

Update (back from holidays)

Traffic icon doesn't show till you get to about Abbotsford. Kamloops,Merritt and Hope don't have it. It's accurate too. Changes color from green to yellow and then red depending on traffic, gives you estimated time of back-up also, that was accurate also. Neat thing was, it warned me of it coming and switched to the traffic map automatically. On another hand, what was a real pain was the red light camera warnings. Damnit almost threw it out the window, had to turn the Proximity Alerts off. 7 times it warns me before i get to the light and sometimes twice after i went through it, once for sure. GOTTA change that, dunno how yet though.

Traffic

mpen09 wrote:

I took my 765T on a 1000 mile round trip to Toronto from Long Island. Had three device crashes on the trip related to traffic. The worst was coming home with two of those crashes occurring in the NYC area where there was heavy traffic. Unfortunately, Garmin does not provide any documented way to upload the crash dumps to them for analysis. They could probably fix a lot of problems if they had a reporting system like Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft.

Speed alert on 755T in V4.0

Ragwingr wrote:

Is there anyway of getting rid of this "feature"? It also drives me batty. I've looked through the files on the 755, searched Google and I can't find anything. I'm guessing this is something we have to live with. Other than that, the 755 works quite well but I wish I would have gotten a slightly newer model with Bluetooth so that I could use it with the new OBDC I/F that was released a couple of months ago then I could have some useful gauges in the MC.
