Love my garmin bean bag

Love my garmin bean bag mount. I got it at best buy, and after using my reward points, it cost me $5.00

Have both Friction and Bean..... Friction takes the cup

I have had a friction mount from Garmin for the past 9 mnths. Had used a Garmin bean bag for a year previous. Recently my son took the friction mount as he was flying and I went back to my bean bag.
I tried to offer him the bean bag and when he saw the size and weight of the bean bag he declined in favour of my friction mount.

No comparison.... the friction mount allows unobstructed view and access to the GPS. It is probably half the weight of the bean bag and twice as "grabby" on the dash. It also takes up about 1/3 less space in a pack or bag.

I know everyone seems to

I know everyone seems to love the beanbag mount, but I still don't want one. The suction cup, stuck to the instrument panel, works fine for me on the two cars I have. The GPS is easy to see, and no marks on the windshield.

Anybody tried the vent mount?

I wonder how well that holds a GPS?

Vent mount ?

Ask your Vent - and once it's broke, go ahead and get it fixed. But I sure ain't payin' for it, the same applies for that CD-slot holder !

Sorry, the heat of Southern France (and lack of PTO) is getting to my head. But in TWO WEEKS I'm headed for the Corsican beaches !!!

I'll try and think of you for those three weeks, even bought me a new netbook for the occasion. Miss POI, you will of course be in my thoughts. Nothing naughty or anything - just a thought for people worthy of being thought about in good moments. I am of course VERY HAPPILY married, and my beloved will be with me.

Navgear Bean Bag Mount Price

You might have gotten it for $9.99, or you might have misprinted and erronously forgotten to place the 1 in front of the 9.99,however either way the unit is now $19.99.

Vent mount - follow up

You've got a point. There is a bit of weight and pressure to apply to those fins that are not designed for holding a GPS unit. Thanks for your valuable opinion.

Like the Vent

Gary Indiana wrote:

I like the vent mount. I use the one with springs and think it's better than the one without springs. It fits my Accord prefectly, and my old Sienna van not as well. (I have to apply a little bit of pressure to the vent to get it in or out.) Yes, it is a bit delicate but I've had no problems. The GPS is closer to me than the suction mount. It's not out in the hot sun. I've had no trouble with reception. I think it cost me $5, and would buy it again.

I was using a friction mount

I was using a friction mount but it slides across the dash when cornering. I switched to the "Grip IT" vent mount and use it with my 1450. I have been using it for two weeks with no vibrations, it's out of the sun and it does not affect the cooling of the car. wink

Yes

Gary Indiana wrote:

I have been using one for over a year. First with my C550 and then with my 765T. I had been using the Garmin friction mount but in my own vehicle, it had a habit of sliding around due to the shape of the dashboard. The vent mount solved that. However, two weeks ago I drove a round trip with my four-year-old niece and my mother to Toronto. I drove my mother's car as it had more room than my vehicle and my mother's new hips and back work better in her car. She has a 2007 Nissan Versa and the vent mount I normally use in my vehicle just does not mount in a convenient way in her vehicle. Instead I used the Garmin friction mount and it worked great. So the choice of mount really depends on the vehicle. The vent may be better in some vehicles and the friction in others.

Buydig has it for $19.99

Great online retailer.

Vent Strength

I am not sure about the strength of vents in other vehicles but I inadvertently tested the strength of the vent in my 2000 Honda Insight and it passed with flying colors. I accidentally struck my 765T with my arm while reaching for something in the car and broke the mount. One of the two clips that attach the mount to the vent louver broke off. No damage to the vent itself (or the Nuvi for that matter). I had a spare mount and replaced it plus ordered two more on eBay since I suspect this may happen again.

Much depends on the vehicle

Good point. Even after cleaning the base I can't get my bean bag to grip the dash on my Matrix. (During a trip is keeps sliding down the slope that divides the dash)

On the other hand, my friction mount sits tight.

I love the bean bag mount so much better than the suction cup. I can position it where I want, put it under the seat when I leave the car and it can be moved for a passenger to input information. It does move sometimes but not enough to bother me. I will look into the friction mount though and see if I like it better.

FInally tested the non-slip from Garmin

And I must say it was just GREAT - even on the winding roads of Corsica !

And I'll second anyone who claimed it was easy to store - my place of choice is right under my seat.

Like it, Although

It works great while driving on paved roads but dirt roads with the washboard thing going on make it move around too much. I switch back to the windshield mount when I know I am going to be driving on those surfaces.

good product, horrible packaging!

I got a friction mount for my mother in law to use with her new Garmin. It's a good product and does the job, but the packaging is something else! I used metal snips to get through the plastic. I wish they made their products as tough as the packaging!

You are right about that.Got so it is a major job to get something out of the plastic molding packaging.Try to keep it neat in case I need to take it back.By the time I finish it looks like a bundle of small pieces of plastic.

Bean bag does not fit

I drive a Mazda3, its dash area closest to the driver's side is only about 3". I use the friction mount because the beanbag would cover a flat speaker on the dash. Only half of it's bottom surface is attached. My nuvi has remained stable considering the mount is only halfway attached.
