all the time

I have had my bean bag mount almost 5 years now. Had to get it when I noticed the suction cup marks on the windshield. Got to be sorta careful to not get too complacent because a few times the suction released from the bag and I came close to dropping it. Happy anniversary to me. I been a member of POI Factory for 5 years now.

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.

Suction Cup Marks

The little circles the suction cup leaves on the windshield are dead giveaway that there is likely a GPS unit hiding somewhere in your parked car. My brother lost one that way. He was always very careful to remove the Nuvi and mount from the windshield and hide it in the car, but the marks left behind prompted a thief to smash a window and remove it from under the seat. If you use the windshield mount, you have to remember to wipe the marks off the glass when you park.

Another good tip is to put the unit away -before- you park so the theives don't see it and move in for the prize after you walk away.

I always use the suction mount, so it forces me to clean my windshield often. I wipe off the circles every time I use it. I never leave my GPS in the car, always take it with me even though I leave no evidence behind.

If I am in a situation where I am taking it off the windshield with an "audience" around, I make sure they see me walking away with my GPS and Radar Detector so they know that I didn't leave them in the car after removing from the windshield. I didn't realize how many people actually leave the GPS in the car after removing it from the windshield.

So, how DO you keep/maintain the grabbyness?

My growing hatred of the beanbag is one of the reasons I picked up an upgraded unit recently. Gets really annoying to have to reach out to catch the GPS when I need to give the gas pedal a good stab.

Wash it as described here http://www.poi-factory.com/node/11546

using something like Armor-all on the dash. This leaves a very slick silicone based film that the bag can't grip.

good solid advice!

I thought you might have said something like SLICK!

He DID say "SLICK" because HE WAS SAYING that IF you USE ARMOR-ALL, then YOUR DASH WILL BE MUCH MORE "SLICK" than if you don't use any such thing (my paraphrase for emphasis), so his advice is not just good, but VERY good!

It looks like he was really advocating that we DO NOT use the aromor-all , since it will only make the dash slicker when you do use it!

.

Might have to go with the bean bag again. These suction mounts keep falling off the windshield. Must be the heat in Florida.

Just ordered a SECOND non-slip model

Like the one the OP eventually ordered on eBay ? Well, we just placed an order for a new GPSr for our daughter, and included that folding thingie in our present for her birthday.

Yeah yeah, I know... Kids and all that... But we done it anyways grin

Heck, she'll be 35 this year ! razz

Yeah, nothing worse than the GPS falling off the windshield in the middle of a trip. I gave up on that type of mount years ago. Never had the beanbag fall or even move during a trip.

Bean Bag mount

You know what they say, Once you go BB you never go back. Pitch the suction cup go BB. BB 4ever.

Bean Bag

Love the bean bag.....however when you travel and use a rental car it adds significant weight to your carry on luggage.

amazon

But that's just one more advantage of the non-slip model which was eventually chosen by the OP, btw. It simply folds, and really doesn't weight all that much smile

Aa I was saying, our daughter got hers, and tested it in her little Renault Twingo (don't laugh, well not too hard anyway, please...) - conclusive and positive result. And a smooth driver she ain't !
