love my beans

agreed. No ugly marks on the windshield and easy to stow away when on a driving vacation. Works perfectly sitting on top of the "glovebox" in between the seats of the van.

Just bought the same one

The only thing I now need to do, is take some time off work to actually TEST the darn thing ! Got so much work with most of my Team on PTO, I work from home a lot more. No car driving, no test... Rats, I hadn't thought of that ! Got an excellent deal on it, though - 22 Euro, I just couldn't resist.

Ah - and the good news is, I'm due to take MY PTO very soon, so I'll have two weeks to try it on the Corsican roads. Plenty of turns and stuff, testing should be quite thorough !

Great Mount

I got mine a couple of years ago at Best Buy on sale. I would not go back to the suction mount. We ordered 3 from Amazon for Christmas this past year. The kids love them.

Question for BB users:

Is the mount sturdy enough for using the touch screen? Since it requires a bit of a push – I wonder…
Subject wise – I mounted mine on the centre dash, top left of stereo… It is easy to consult, reachable to control, and does not stick out from outside…

Should be good - - -

Should be sturdy enough, yes. I've not had any trouble with it.

If there's a problem, try placing your fingers slightly over the top to steady it, while you use your thumb to work the screen.

It works great for me

At first I was skeptical, but after owning one for a few months I can't say anything but great things about BB.

visibility

I started right away with the beanbag mount because it increases my visibility (GPS not up in the visibility).

But its also nice because you can set it on the floor when you stop (can't see it, can't steal it).

Plus its also easier for a passenger to take and use the GPS (looking for food, location, whatever) while driving.

Occasionally the suction cup releases, but most of the time the GPS just sits on the bean bag instead of falling.

Never had a problem with it sliding around even after a hard stop or turn.

I really prefer the beanbag

I really prefer the beanbag mount to the suction cup mount. Perfect for moving between vehicles and out of the way when you leave the vehicle. After seeing my sister's generic, I paid the extra for the Garmin one.

The Only Way To Go!

I've been using one since I got my first GPS and wouldn't use anything else. I own a Toyota Tundra and rest it on the ash tray. The positioning is perfect and have never has a problem with sliding, etc. I can be viewed at a glance and doesn't obstruct my view in any way. If the passenger wants to use the unit, it's easy to swivel their way. When I leave the vehicle, I just unsnap the unit and put it in the console. I would never use anything else.

Bean Bag

I was concerned that the bean bag would slide around. Have been using windshield mount but it now falls of ~every 45 minutes. I remove it before I leave the vewhicle and wipe the windshield to remove the ring it leaves.

Love mine too

Got the beanbag as a gift. Like it much better than window mount. I don't really know why it stays put. On a real rough road it will slide a little forward but on normal driving it stays where I put it.

Beanbag Mount

My father in-law recently bought me the beanbag mount for my nuvi and at first I thought it was a waist of money. It's not that it isn't nice, it's just that I didn't "need" it. I also thought it would just fly off the dash, well let me tell you, the thing is awesome. Not only do I use it, it's way better than the window mount, and....... it holds the dash so well, it's like it's glued down. I would recommend it to anyone.

Bean Bag

I have been saying this all the time. It works like a magnet.

It's the way to go...

The bean bag mount is the way to go. It's much more flexible to use than the suction cup mount.

Vent Mount

I still like the vent mount - $5. It, and the beanbag place the GPS closer to the me, making it easier to reach. So, both seem better than the suction cup mount, which had issues for me when it was very hot or very cold.

good choice

I bought one at Amazon, it is a bean bag with a mounting arm in the center. Works great, allows me to put it many different places and with the mounting arm the GPS can be rotated on the mounting ball.

Been using the BB for about 3 years

I've been using a BB mount for about 3 years, first with a 200, now with an 8 series. I have found with the 8 series, and it probably applies to the 7 series as well, that if you position the gooseneck so the cradle faces the cutout between the lobes it's easier to pop the unit out of the mount.

Have been using one for a few years.

This is a great mount

Bean Bag Mount

Thanks for the feedback, all. I'll have to get one too.

On the other hand...

I'll play devil's advocate, & I know that I'm in the minority but, I don't care for the bean bag mount as much as simply using the suction cup to the windshield.

We've got a Garmin brand bean bag ashtray that we use in our Durango since the windshield is quite a way from the dash. However, it's fairly obtrusive (looks like we've got a wreath on the dash) & it slides around without much provocation. As a middle-aged guy with the family in the car, I'm not exactly drifting around the corners either.

As I posted earlier on this or another thread, don't remember which, I had a side impact accident this spring in my convertible when a guy blew threw a red light hitting me in the driver's door & my Garmin never budged. The car had to be towed but I had to remove the 765 & mount from the windshield before the wrecker took the car. I've also never had the suction cup come off without releasing the lever, & it's been through two Michigan winters & summers.

I like to position it in the lower left side of the windshield, out of the way. Whenever I leave the car I wipe the windshield with a microfiber towel & take the Garmin with me.

I'm not trying to tick anyone off. I just wanted to include another point of view in the discussion. At some point I might try the new sticky Garmin mount.

Not lost anymore. Well, not as it pertains to driving anyway. -Garmin Nuvi 765t, 56 unt Mac user.

I place mine on the center

I place mine on the center console of the van. Out of the line of sight yet easily visible. Usually just need the audio directions anyway. And as others have said, does not fall off and bounce around like the windshield mounts....nor leave the tell-tale ring on the glass.

for extra grip consider "non-slip dash pad" btw dash and beanbag

bugdude wrote:

In one vehicle it will slide all over the place when going around corners.
anyone have any ideas on how to help with this situation?

I would try adding a non-slip dash pad (see link below) between the beanbag and the dash. I was recently riding in a friends car who was using one of these to hold her sunglasses on the dash. It was very thin and very sticky.

Another alternative to bean

Another alternative to bean bag is gluing round 2 to 3 inch dia. smooth glass or mirror somewhere to the dashboard. Suction cup will hold much better and longer onto it than on the windshield. Direct sunlight can be a problem on the windshield.

That's exactly what the dashboard disk that you should have received with your Garmin (if that's what you have) does. I use it and it works fine. But I haven't read of many others using it.

I got mind a few years ago

I got mind a few years ago and it works really well. It is very stable and has not yet slid off from turns or using the touchscreen. I move it off of the dash to the floor in a split second when I get to my destination leaving no sign of a gps in the car to prevent theft. I had looked at the newer friction mounts when I got a third garmin, but it didn't look as sturdy as the bean bag.

I used dashboard disk

in my second car for quite a while but I would find the GPS on the floor when it was in the sun and I forgot to take the GPS down (in my driveway in the country where no one was around to steal it). So I got a Garmin friction mount and am much happier.

I forgot to mention that a glass disk will keep the suction much longer (many months) than the plastic disk supplied by Garmin does. That's my experience.

I used the Garmin beanbag mount with great success, but then I got the GPS City Super Grip Dashboard Friction Mount. It is much better, and it sells for $14.95.

The GPS City mount is larger, heaver, much more stable and less likely to move under driving conditions.

Suction cup drops its suction once in a while and I'm afraid I might break the screen one day.

I still use my 2720, but I did get an 855. Also a good unit. There are many times when the smaller which easily fits in my pocket is a better choice. Don't need to have thieves seeing me put the 2720 brick away.
