Corrupt (?) language voice

My Nüvi 760 worked fine until some months ago.
Suddenly the voice got distorted, I understood more or less what was said, but...
I have now two Danish voice versions, Danish and Danish Nana.
When I bought the GPS, there was only one voice version, Danish and I made a complete backup of the software originally installed on the GPS.
Later I updated the software and selected the Danish Nana, just to see what it sounded.
Now, the Danish version is not functioning (no voice at all), the Danish Nana is the one that "works" but distorted.
I just updated the software AND the two voice versions with the webupdater, nothing helped.
Then I removed both language files inclusive the sum file and replaced them with the originally Danish version plus the sum file. Bingo, the good voice came back, BUT the GPS could not find the satellites!
My question is now: What will happen IF I remove all the software on the GPS and replace it with the originally installed software???
AND: any good constructive advise?
Kudos on your backup
I'm surprised someone else with more experience hasn't jumped it yet, but let me give it a try.
Since you have a backup (and maybe several), if I had the problem, I would do this. If there were several backups - say because you had gotten new maps - I would use a great little freeware package called x-win-merge
http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?q=winmerge
Be sure to go into the English-users and take that ini file and overlay the one in the folder with the .exe file.
Run the program using the main folders for your two backups and check to include subfolders. This thing will take a long time as it compares (literally) the POI.GPI files, but let it run. Now you see the files that have canged between backups.
Then, after making a complete backup of the GPS unit as it sits now, I would reload the oldest backup and checked that it worked. If the problem is still there, then "firmware" updates might be the problem. If no problem, try replacing files one at a time with their newer versions until the problem reapears.
I have never tried to backout a firmware update, but based on other posts at this site, I think you can do so.
This may be a back and forth process, but you are trying to isolate whether it is "software" or "firmware".
Hopefully, my post will cause this thread to pop up near the top and someone with more experience will weigh in.
Hard reset.
It seems unlikely to me that changing voice files would cause your unit to not be able to acquire satellites. I suppose there is some possibility that if the voice file is corrupt the unit is not fully booting all the software components, but this seems very unlikely to me.
Here is what I would do:
1) Do a hard reset (procedure is here: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/26136)
2) Run Web Updater and apply any available updates. Also load in the current American English Jill voice for testing.
3) Reboot the unit and allow all updates to complete. Then do another hard reset.
4) Take the unit outside to open sky and let it sit in a fixed postition until it gets a good solid satellite fix.
5) Test it with the American Engilsh Jill voice and make sure everything is working.
6) Go back through and set all your preferences, including the voice you want to use.

Corrupt (?) language voice
Thanks for all the good remarks/advices.
I found out that using the webupdater updating the Nüvi software, did not solve the problem, which was actually a stuttered (?) voice. BUT, downloading the .exe file(http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3811) not using the webupdater, solved most of the problem. On the website is described in version 4.80 a problem with stuttered voice. The Danish Nana is acceptable, but the old non-TTS Danish language file does not work, although I am able to chose it in the language setup.
Garmin US could not help me at the moment, but recommended me to call again and let the tech. dept check the software/hardware remote.
By the way: Calling Garmin has always been a pleasant experience, they spend the time needed on you! Thanks for that too.
