Anomalies on Garmin POI's

I have a Garmin nuvi255W. It has two POIs for a "Spoonbills" restaurant, but one is spelled "Spoondills" and creates a spurious entry. Is there a way to notify Garmin of this (and other) POI changes?

Probably better

Your probably better to notify the map creators, Navteq. You can do that at http://mapreporter.navteq.com/dur-web-external/secured/submi...

Copyright

It could be one of those imbeded records that are used to check if their database was extracted and used by someone else. Phone book have these also.

Edit the Garmin POIs

Is there some way to backup the original list of POIs from Garmin, and then replace it with an edited subset? I'd like to delete ALL of the POI's in states I'm never likely to visit and only put them back in the event I do go there as well as clean up those POIs which are local and wrong...

I have a Nuvi 1490T and have been very happy with it so far.

The built in POI'S are part

The built in POI'S are part of the mapset and cannot be altered, Deleted or modded... the only thing you can do is work with the custom poi's that you make or download.

Not as far as I know

As far as I know there isn't a way to even read the original Garmin pois, let alone back up or replace them.

I've tried a few times to read the data, but it's enough of a reverse-engineering feat that you won't find much info anywhere or get very far.

Before I get flamed for something illegal here.. I would only like to do this to see how redundant and a waste of unit memory it might be to load something like "US McDonald's" POI files, etc.

(Nothing against anyone who likes McDonald's, btw)

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

255W

I have a 255W as well and I have noticed that a few freeway exit numbers are wrong near where I live....IE: it wll say "take exit number 50 toward xxxx aheah", but xxx is exit number 53.

Report it to Navteq

Report the errors to Navteq at http://mapreporter.navteq.com/dur-web-external/. It can take a while (months, years) before those errors are corrected in the maps they supply to Garmin. However, if you don't report it, it may never get done.

report to navteg

I reported a street that did not exist, they said it showed on their map so they were not willing to correct it..WoW

Notify navteq

I did just that and it only took 2 years for the correction to happen.

Write both

My city has added a lot of new restaurants and several businesses have relocated during the last eight years but every new Garmin I tried didn’t show many of my favorite POIs so I resisted updating both my Garmin GPS and/or its maps… A little over a year ago I got upset at their lack of current information so I wrote both Garmin and Navteq. I don’t know if it helped but the most recent maps have just about everything they should have; hence I recently upgraded from a 360 to a 775.
