nuvi 255w can't find its way

Have had my nuvi 255w for a yr. now and am very dissatisfied with performance. Makes mistakes on the road, and says "recalculating". Can't find my church in my hometown, that has been there for years. Coming home from Shelby N.Carolina and out of the clear blue says "recalculating", and the map shows highlighted route straight ahead. On the same trip it directed me off the interstate, then directed me back to the on ramp again to continue on the same route. Whats up with that???? I downloaded the latest update. That's an all day job too. Anybody else have these problems??

Are you loosing the

Are you loosing the satellite signal?

That is a strange issue.

Not sure

Not sure what you mean by the latest update being an all day job. If it's the maps maybe, but a firmware update shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

You problem sounds like many of the symptoms corrected by Garmins latest firmware update for the 2x5 line of Nuvi's. Suggest you use Webupdater to load the latest firmware release and see it that fixes some or most of your issues.

nuvi can't find its way

Wow, you guys sure are quick with the response. I'll try the web updater and see if that helps. I have the lifetime update and I download it to my computer, then download it to my nuvi. Takes about three hours to download from site, and another 2 or three hours to the device. Isn't that right?

Depends on the modem

If your on dsl or cable it takes a couple of hours to get the update then a couple of hours to get it all loaded, If i remember correctly it took me about 3 hrs from the get go. but i have the dsl extreme connection. if your on a reg modem. I feel for you... hours and hours of downloading.

web updater

How do I know if the web updater is for my nuvi 255w. When I go to download the web updater it says it is for only specific units and it will render the wrong unit inoperable.

Sounds like a glitch

Sounds like a glitch somewhere while updating. If you want to restore it back to factory settings turn the gps off, press and hold the lower right hand corner while turning the gps on, follow the prompts! thatll reset it to original factory settings.

Thats just an idea.

On & off freeway

I had a similar situation in Phoenix, but I had a local with me who said to stay on the freeway. The whole section was under construction and was detoured until recently. So my current map did not show the road reopened.

I have used web updater on my

I have used web updater on my 255W. With your 255W connected to PC, web updater looks for updates to your specific unit / model. As mentioned above, firmware update should only take a few minutes. This is different from the map update that takes hours.

Hopefully, updating your firmware to the latest version will correct your problem. I have not had any problems with my 255W.

Make sure to download the correct webupdater at http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99... One for windows or Mac. Once you run the web updater with the gps connected to your computer using the usb cable it will find the unit you have.

Can't depend on my nuvi

Hawk, My nuvi can't even find my city town hall, police station,my local church, and many other things in my town. It has locations for those places but they are all wrong. If I was new in town and wanted to find city hall,it wouldn't take me to the right place. USELESS!!!

Yes, I agree. The built in

Yes, I agree. The built in pois are not always accurate. Addresses are often off. They get you in the 'ball park' only. In general, they have be adequate for me. I use custom poi files when possible. They are accurate.
